‘Sistine Secrets’

by Shlomo Gewirtz

Your story on “The Sistine Secrets” certainly provoked my interest enough to quickly read the book and stay ahead of the controversy that you manufactured by dredging up an anonymous bunch of screaming anti-Semites and a couple of art historians who kvetch about how only PhD’s have the right to an inner vision of the famous Biblical frescoes (“Hitting The Roof Over ‘Sistine Secrets’” May 9)."

If you’re looking for something that’s intellectually appealing to your readers, instead of pandering to a sensationalism that’s so unworthy of this newspaper, why not assign the story to a reporter who appears to have read the work and is able to seize on truly important controversies like the one surrounding the so-called horns of Michelangelo’s Moses? Benjamin Blech should call himself a rabbi detective. I am proud of him.
