Giuliani’s Comments

Rudolph Giuliani is not capable of discussing serious issues in a rational manner (“Specter Of Dinkins Injected Into Race,” Oct. 23). Instead, he espouses unjustified fear. It was easy to decipher what he was talking about [at a recent speech in Borough Park while campaigning for Mayor Michael Bloomberg]. He was telling the audience that electing an African American (Democratic challenger Bill Thompson) in the coming mayoral election will bring back another Crown Heights affair. It was not simply untrue, but an ugly intrusion of race and religion into the election and possibly a payback to Bloomberg for his recent public statement that he thought Giuliani would make a good governor.

Equally disturbing is the Anti-Defamation League’s failure to condemn Giuliani’s statements, claiming his remarks did not cross the line. It not only crossed the line, it erased it. And the ADL’s failure to respond does it no credit.
