In a nod to the value of name recognition, Israeli right-wing leader Avigdor Lieberman has asked former U.S. vice president Al Gore to join his Israel Beiteinu party and share the ticket with him in the next Israeli election.
“Lieberman-Gore – it has a nice ring to it, no?” asked the Knesset rising star at a news conference this week. “We have a lot in common. We both know a lot about inconvenient truths.”

Lieberman said the move would be environmentally friendly because it would allow him to recycle surplus Gore-Lieberman campaign posters and buttons from the 2000 U.S. presidential campaign. “Fortunately, Israelis read right to left,” he said.

In response, Labor contender Ehud Barak said he’d have the best chance to win the next election because “the name Barak just keeps getting cooler and cooler,” while Kadima’s Tzipi Livni said she’d run in the next election under her English name, Hillary.
