Mamilla District Transforming Downtown Jerusalem

by

Dubbed as the “first luxury lifestyle hotel in Jerusalem,” the 194-room Mamilla Hotel opened in the spring without the fanfare of a grand opening. Though the opulent hotel has already attracted its share of big-name local and international celebrities, such as Israeli-born, Hollywood actress Ayelet Zorer (“Angels and Demons”), it actively promotes itself as the “centerpiece of Jerusalem’s cultural, architectural and urban fabric.”

The Mamilla Hotel actually offers guests an opportunity to drown out exterior physical and emotional inner noise by indulging themselves in the Holistic Well-Being Center, whose gym, “Watsu” spa and health bar inspires visitors to “achieve greater balance and inner harmony.”

The Mamilla Hotel is the first tourist facility in Israel to feature rooms designed by noted Italian interior designer Piero Lissoni. The hotel’s Rooftop outdoor brassiere, which serves an array of Italian style salads, meat and fish dishes, offers a breathtaking view of the entrance to the Old City, as well as the bustling Alrov Mamilla Avenue promenade below.

In fact, Alrov Mamilla Avenue, which opened in 2008, has transformed the area around the entrance to the Jaffa Gate in the Old City, into a swank shopping and cultural mecca akin to Los Angeles’ Rodeo Drive. Indeed, the local owners of the GAP clothing franchise decided to open its flagship branch along Alrov Mamilla Avenue just before Rosh HaShanah.

During the forthcoming winter season, the Mamilla Hotel will be offering discounted introductory rates for guests booking “Studio Rooms.” A spokesperson for the hotel noted that the $352 rate is for couples on a “bed and breakfast plan.”
