Music Listby “Cantorial Inspiration.” The Eldridge Street Synagogue was one of the Lower East Side’s many homes to great cantorial singing. Cantor Sam Weiss, accompanied by tsimbl master Pete Rushefsky and acclaimed violinist Steven Greenman, revives that tradition for an evening. (See article elsewhere in this issue.) The Museum at Eldridge Street, Sunday, February 17 at 3 p.m. Kane Street Klezmer Band. This new Brooklyn-based aggregation is led by the estimable mandolinist Joey Weisenberg and consists of members and families from the Kane Street Synagogue. An opportunity not only to hear some good music, but to learn how to play it, too. Kane Street Synagogue (236 Kane St.), Thursday evenings, Feb. 21 and 28, 7:30-9 p.m. march “The Destruction of Jerusalem.” A long-lost oratorio by perhaps the most unfairly neglected of 19th century Jewish composers, Frederick Hiller, performed by the American Symphony Orchestra, Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Center. There will also be a pre-concert talk at 1:30 p.m. by ASO composer-in-residence Richard Wilson, in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, Rose Building, Tenth Floor, 70 Lincoln Center Plaza. Din Din Aviv. The hugely popular Israeli pop star makes her American debut as part of the Israel at 60 tour. Former lead singer with Idan Raichel, her first solo album last year went gold. For information, call (646) 437-4200 or go to www.mjhnyc.org. april Building a Musical “Bridge to Peace.” Theodore Bikel, Dutch singer Shura Lipovsky, Bosnian accordionist Merima Kljuco, and conductor Tamara Brooks offer a program of pieces from Sephardic, Yiddish, Bosnian, Greek, French, Hebrew and American traditions, among others. April 9 at 7 p.m. at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. “Tantshoyz” (Dance House).” Lace up your dancing shoes and prepare to learn Yiddish dance, led by Zev Feldman with a live klezmer band. Thursday, April 17: at the JCC in Manhattan (Amsterdam at 76th Street).
