Music Listby Sept. 10: Metropolitan Klezmer brings the sandwiches. The Metros are nothing if not ingenious; who else would play a gig at Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop? Around the corner from the Flatiron Building and New York landmark since 1929 (not a great year to start a business, but what the heck), Eisenberg’s has probably never hosted a band before, so this should be very interesting. And they picked a great band to start with. Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop (Fifth Avenue and 22nd Street.). (212) 675-5096. Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8, Dec. 20: A Roy Nathanson smorgasbord. Nathanson will be helping open a new space in Brooklyn with a series of evenings that include both his music and a selection of bands he is presenting. Sycamore (1118 Cortelyou Rd., Brooklyn). Additionally, on Dec. 4 at 92YTribeca (200 Hudson St., [212] 601-1000), he’ll be performing music from his new CD and book of poetry, “Subway Moon.” Sept. 21, Oct. 26, Dec. 14: The Center for Traditional Music and Dance and the Center for Jewish History present the An-sky Institute for Jewish Culture Series. Three exciting programs, curated by Walter Zev Feldman, covering the multiethnic music cultures of Moldova, an evening with poet, songwriter and national treasure Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman, and a tribute to the great Bukharian Jewish musician Ilyas Malayev. Center for Jewish History (15 W. 16th St.); all three events start at 7 p.m. (212) 868-4444. Sept. 26: Benny Goodman, the Classical Legacy. Goodman left behind a substantial body of works he had commissioned and, in the year of his centenary, David Shifrin has gathered a selection of the best of them as part of a Yale Music School in New York tribute to the great clarinetist and band leader. Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall (Seventh Avenue and 57th Street), 7:30 p.m. (212) 247-7800. Sept. 30: Jake Shulman-Ment launches his debut album. Hard to believe that a violinist as gifted as this one hasn’t done a CD as a leader until now, but that’s the way it is. The set is called “A Redele (A Wheel)” and the concert to celebrate its release should be a great one, with Shulman-Ment on fiddle and vocals, Benjy Fox-Rosen on bass and vocals, Ben Holmes on trumpet, Art Bailey on accordion and Pete Rushefsky on tsimbl. Definitely an all-star team. Museum at Eldridge Street (12 Eldridge St.). (212) 219-0302. Oct. 8: Deleon w/Os Mutantes. Here’s a fascinating pairing: Deleon is a hip Sephardic music-cum-psychedelia band from Brooklyn, touring with the legendary parents of Brazilian rock, Os Mutantes. Deleon put on a great live show, and you must be able to tell your grandchildren that you saw Os Mutantes. Webster Hall (125 E 11th St., [212] 353-1600). Dec. 16: “In Memory Of” with the Yale Strom Quartet. On a 2006 trip to Romania, Strom found a treasure trove of old music in the women’s balcony of an old shul in Carei. This concert will draw on some of the 250 songs in the cantor’s music book from that gold mine. Museum at Eldridge Street (12 Eldridge St.).
