Jerusalem — Just when    it seemed that Jerusalem’s luxury hotel market was saturated, here comes the Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem Hotel, which is expected to open its doors in time for Passover.

September saw dip in foreign tourism but bookings now on the rise as winter season nears.

September wasa rough month for  tourism to Israel, as the early Jewish holiday season, the volatile shekel/dollar exchange range and Egypt’s political instability combined to trim profit margins of major Israeli hotels.

Last month saw a 16 percent drop in foreign tourism, compared to September 2012, according to a recent report from Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The Rimonim Royal Dead Sea features a spa, above, and one of the region’s largest health clubs.

Plant Trees, Play Golf: The Jewish National Fund has announced its first-ever International Golf Mission to Israel in October. A national tournament taking place throughout the summer in four different American cities will determine the four winning teams to face off in what JNF is calling the El Al Cup. The winning teams will play for the championship at the Caesarea Golf Club. The mission takes place Oct. 10-15. All other Golf Mission participants will have the opportunity to play in their own tournament, alongside those competing for the El Al Cup.

Jerusalem’s First Station (HaTachana, or The Station, in Hebrew) one of the changing city’s newest attractions, just turned 120 this year, but its smart new look, trendy shops and daily events have transformed it from an abandoned skeleton into a place where young, and young-at-heart, locals as well as tourists, come to decompress.
