God’s first words to the prophet Ezekiel are: “Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak to you” (Ezek. 2:1). Reaching our full human height we are most ready to encounter God.
When a Jew has suffered a loss and tears a garment in mourning, the tearing takes place while the mourner stands upright. Confronting the pain and puzzlement of loss, standing upright signifies dignity and hope.
Gary Rosenblatt is spot-on in referring to “politicians in Jerusalem and Washington desperately seeking a means of escape from the S.S Oslo, the outdated, ill-fated peace process that is still taking in water, doomed to go under” (“Averting Disaster In U.S.-Israeli Relations,” March 19).

As many of you know, The Jewish Week launched its all-new Web site (still found at www.thejewishweek.com) a few days ago. If you’re a print-only reader, we hope you try out the new site, and be sure to tell us what you think.
If you’ve been a regular visitor to our old site, you are well aware that speed and advanced features were not among its virtues. We hope and expect our new site will offer the performance you have a right to expect, although it will take a few weeks of tweaking to reach maximum speed.
