A look behind the scenes in the political world

Is Equal Justice Just A Myth?

Sixteen-year-old Muhammed Abu Khdeir was snatched from an East Jerusalem street by three young Israeli men who beat him severely and then burned him alive.

The murder was one of the sparks that led to the 20124 Gaza war.  Two of the young Jews, who were minors at the time of the attack, were convicted last year and are now up for sentencing.  Prosecutors are asking for two life sentences.  The third man, the purported leader of the assault, has pleaded innocent by reason of mental illness.

Beware Pols' Empty Promises

How gullible do Republicans, especially the Bush brothers, think we Jews are?  Very, judging by their empty promises to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

In this week's GOP presidential debate in North Charleston, S.C., Jeb Bush repeated his promise to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.  A month earlier he told another South Carolina audience that on his first day in the Oval Office his second move would be to order the embassy moved as "a show of solidarity" with the Jewish state.

Israel Gets Passing Mention In GOP Debate

Israel was mentioned only three times, almost in passing, in Thursday night's sixth GOP presidential debate  -- there's one more, in Des Moines, before the February 1 Iowa Caucus. It was a matter of retracing old grounds with nothing new to add.

Cruz And 'New York Values'

What did Ted Cruz really mean when he said Donald Trump represents "New York values?"

On the eve of the Iowa caucuses, where the evangelical vote is critical for Republicans and the Texas senator and New York real estate mogul are in a virtual dead heat, they've broken their bromance and begun trashing each other.

Trump has polished up his birther credentials and changed targets from Barack Obama to the Canadian-born Cruz.

2015 Z"L

It was a year that saw historic advances in gay rights, freedom for a long-serving Israeli spy, the overthrow of a Speaker of the House, Israeli lawmakers felled by charges of sexual harassment, a PM on his way to jail for corruption and a major political defeat for AIPAC and Bibi Netanyahu.

Deri Returns To Scene Of The Crime

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signaled he plans to name as his next interior minister a convicted felon who went to prison for bribery and corruption the last time he held that job.

Glowing Sands

When I heard Ted Cruz boast that that he'll "carpet bomb [ISIS] into oblivion" to see if "sand can glow in the dark," and Donald Trump bloviate about how he plans to "bomb the shit" out of ISIS, I was taken back to January 20, 1981.

I'd taken my family to the Mall to watch the Inauguration of Ronald Reagan.  He wasn't going to be another wimp like Jimmy Carter; no, he would get tough with America's enemies, starting with Iran, which had held 52 American diplomats and other citizens hostage for 444 days.

Where do your donations go?

It's that time of year.  The joyous season of giving.  No, I'm not talking about Chanukah, Christmas or Kwanza.

It's the time of year when we are flooded with appeals for money, not just in the spirit of generosity in this holiday season but because there's just a few days left to write those checks and get a tax deduction for the entire year.

Lindsey Graham

All of the GOP presidential contenders claim to be true and loyal friends of Israel, but for most it is a political statement, grounded less in understanding than in their search for contributions from wealthy single-issue Jewish donors.

The rare exception is Lindsey Graham.  The South Carolina senator, who dropped out of the presidential race today, had the best comprehension of the issues and record of support among the candidates when it came to US-Israel relations.

Putin Endorses Trump

I don't know how well it will go over with the neo-cons and the anti-Communist wing of the GOP, but Vladimir Putin is backing Donald Trump.

The Russian President told reporters at his annual news conference in Moscow that the American capitalist "is a very outstanding man, unquestionably talented."
