Julie Wiener's In the Mix

Passover For Gentiles

With Passover coming, I wanted to point out a few interesting articles about non-Jewish guests at the seder.

This humorous essay on Tablet chronicles one man's attempt to prepare an appropriate seder appetizer. My favorite part:

Reform's Intermarriage Statement: Historic or Ho-Hum?

My initial reaction last week upon reading the press release/announcement from the Central Conference of American Rabbis’ Task Force on the Challenges of Intermarriage for the Reform Rabbi, was, “It took three years of study of deliberation to come up with THIS?”

The Many Kinds Of Intermarriage

The last Super Bowl I watched was in 1980, when I was in third grade. I know the Steelers won, but that’s about all I can tell you.

Welcome to In the Mix

Since April 2006, "In the Mix" has appeared monthly in The Jewish Week. The first and only regular newspaper feature by, for and about intermarried Jews, "In the Mix" draws on journalist Julie Wiener's own experiences raising a Jewish family together with her lapsed Catholic husband, but the column also incorporates extensive interviews, reporting and research from the field. It has addressed everything from conflicts over circumcision, to Julie's mother-in-law's Catholic funeral to an ongoing interfaith divorce battle.
