Iraqi Parliamentarian Mithal al Alusi, whose support for Israel earned him the American Jewish Committee’s Moral Courage Award as well as tragic personal consequences, told The Jewish Week on Tuesday that he has been approached about becoming Minister of Human Rights in the new Iraqi government of Haider al Ibadi.

Syria Starts Ramadan With A Bang

Bashar Assad ushered in Ramadan this weekend by killing at least 136 unarmed civilian demonstrators, including nearly 100 in the city of Hama, the place where nearly 30 years earlier his father massacred tens of thousands of his fellow Syrians. Tanks and machine-gunners also targeted mosque minarets in the Sunni-majority city; Assad and his ruling circle are Alouite Shi'ites.

Senators To Saudis: Let Women Drive

A bipartisan group of 14 female U.S. senators wrote to the King of Saudi Arabia this week urging him to give the women of his kingdom the right to drive a care "once and for all."
