Looking for great wines for the Passover seder? The best kosher wines sorted by price? The best from Israel? You'll find all that and more in the Jewish Week's inaugural list of top kosher wines.
The Jewish Week's first Kosher Wine Guide features articles about an up-and-coming Israeli winemaker, a four-hour scramble to taste 170 wines, and tips on what wines to serve during the Passover seder.
The Guide also features the names of the new winners of The Jewish Week's Top 18 Kosher Wine Competition, in the following categories: Under $18; Between $18-$50; Over $50; Red; White; and Israeli wines.
In conjunction with the Kosher Wine Guide, a Grand Wine Tasting will be held March 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. at City Winery, a wine bar, restaurant, and winemaking facility in Tribeca that produces more than 250 barrels of wine a year, more than 35 of them kosher. The event is open to the public and is expected to attract more than 500 participants. A select group of New York sommeliers, restaurateurs and wine writers - including Michael Dorf, owner of City Winery, Yossie Horwitz, author of a weekly kosher wine e-newsletter, Aron Ritter, president of the Kosher Wine Society, Ilan Tokayer, winemaker and OU mashgiach, and Seth Warshaw, owner of ETC Steakhouse - will participate in the tasting; they helped to create the inaugural list of top wines.
