Larry Greenfield Tapped To Lead JINSA

LOS ANGELES (JTA) -- Larry Greenfield was named national executive director of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs in Washington.

JINSA President David Ganz made the announcement Thursday.

Greenfield, 50, a native of the Los Angeles area, has worked in the fields of law, business, philanthropy, politics, Jewish organizational life and academe.

Minn. Rabbinical Group Opposes Ban On Same-Sex Marriages

(JTA) -- Members of the Minnesota Rabbinical Association have signed a statement opposing a state ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriages.

The group represents rabbis from 15 congregations in the state from the Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionist movements. No Orthodox rabbis signed the statement, which was adopted last month.

The statement said the rabbis were unanimous in opposing the amendment on the Nov. 6 ballot recognizing marriage only as a union between a man and a woman.

Young Palestinians Frustrated With Hamas And Fatah

Tel Aviv — When the rival Palestinian factions, Hamas and Fatah, first signed a reconciliation agreement last May in Cairo, young political activists in Gaza went outside to celebrate.

But after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshal announced on Monday a new agreement in Qatar on the formation of an interim government to prepare the first national elections in years, there was no such public rejoicing.

Alleged N.J. Synagogue Attacker Facing New Charges

(JTA) -- The 19-year-old man charged in attacks on two northern New Jersey synagogues allegedly planned to attack another nearby synagogue.

Anthony Graziano of Lodi, N.J., who has pleaded not guilty to the two attacks, allegedly hid Molotov cocktails and a bicycle in the woods near the Jewish Community Center of Paramus with plans for an attack on Jan. 7.

The Bergen County prosecutor on Jan. 27 added charges of aggravated arson and bias intimidation for the planned attack.
