Alan H. Gill has been tapped to serve as the next CEO of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, where as the group’s executive director of International Relations he has helped build a global operation to support the JDC’s
humanitarian efforts in more than 70 countries and Israel.

Gill, 60, was tapped for the job following an international search. JDC President Penny Blumenstein said Gill’s “seasoned leadership and forward-thinking expertise” would allow him to  “hit the ground running” when he assumes the reins Jan. 31. She pointed out that the JDC “has never been needed more” as evidenced by its work of helping to protect the most vulnerable during eight days of Hamas rocket attacks in the last two weeks.

Under Gill’s leadership, the JDC’s annual, direct philanthropic revenue increased tenfold with significant growth in foundation, major donor, governmental and general donor support, bringing its total budget to $350 million. In addition, he played a leadership role in launching several JDC landmark programs, including the Hunger Relief Campaign for impoverished Jews in the former Soviet Union, and Ashalim, a program to address the needs of Israel’s children at risk.
