Tel Aviv — Seven weeks of war have left behind large swathes of Gaza City destroyed and thousand of Palestinian casualties. In Israel, dozens of soldiers died, thousands of residents fled their homes and polls show that Israelis believe that the cease-fire reached last week will eventually give way to a new war.
Washington — Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) vigorously defended her vote for increased funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile-interception system.
“America has a very special relationship with Israel,” Warren, a leader among liberal Democrats touted as a possible presidential contender, said last week at a Cape Cod town hall meeting when challenged about her vote.
Aharon Sofer, a 23-year-old yeshiva student from Lakewood, N.J., was buried on Friday in Beit Shemesh, a day after his body was found in the Jerusalem Forest. He had been the object a week-long search after he disappeared while hiking with a friend.
