Two groups of teenagers were at John F. Kennedy Airport Tuesday preparing to board a flight to Israel on a BBYO-organized tour when the organization decided at the last moment to delay the trips because of the rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip, The Jewish Week has learned.
The closure of Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport for several hours Tuesday because Hamas rockets had targeted it forced BBYO to cancel its Israeli tour for two groups of teenagers who had already arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport.
After Gaza militants unleashed their heaviest rocket fire in 20 months, there has been an outpouring of support for Israel from Jewish groups across the political spectrum. Both from the left and right, Jewish organizations condemned the murder of Palestinian teenager Mohammed Abu Khdeir.
