EU Parliament Certifies Israeli Pharmaceuticals

The European Parliament voted in favor of simplifying the sale of Israeli pharmaceuticals within the European Union.

With Tuesday's vote in Strasbourg, France, the parliament approved “a very important technical-commercial agreement,” Yigal Palmor, a spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told JTA in an email.

Greek Neo-Nazi party rises as economy sinks

Tens of thousands of Greek protesters welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to their country Oct. 9 with Nazi uniforms, Hitler salutes and swastika flags, lamenting her new austerity measures amid their floundering economy.

While protesters’ gestures were symbolic, the real threat Nazi ideology poses to Greece comes from within.

New Toronto Jewish Campus Sign Of Booming Community

Standing in the sprawling new $185 million Jewish community complex just north of Toronto, Taali Lester Tollman sweeps her outstretched arm in a wide arc.

"Just a few years ago," says Tollman, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto's vice president of marketing, "all this was pasture."

Actually it was woodland, but no matter. On the space now stands one of the most ambitious Jewish projects ever undertaken in Canada.

U.S. Reiterates Opposition To "Israeli Settlement Activity"

During a speech at the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate on the Middle East, U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Susan Rice outlined the Obama administration’s stance on key Middle East issues including Israeli building in the West Bank, peace efforts and the Palestinian bid for statehood.

Rice emphasized that the U.S. “does not accept the legitimacy of Israeli settlement activity, and will continue to oppose any efforts to legalize outposts.”

Report: iPhone 5 Selling In Gaza At Almost Double Price

A pricey version of the latest iPhone from Apple is on sale in Gaza despite Palestinians’ professed poverty due to an Israeli and Egyptian partial blockade of the territory.

Meanwhile, Israelis looking to get their hands on Apple’s latest technology without traveling to Gaza will have to wait until December, when Israel’s mobile carriers will start selling the iPhone5.

Kafka's Writings To Go Public

An Israeli court ruled that papers belonging to writer Franz Kafka be transferred to the Israel National Library in Jerusalem.

The Tel Aviv District Family Court made the ruling last Friday following a years-long legal battle.
