Report: iPhone 5 Selling In Gaza At Almost Double Price

10/16/2012 | JNS.org

A pricey version of the latest iPhone from Apple is on sale in Gaza despite Palestinians’ professed poverty due to an Israeli and Egyptian partial blockade of the territory.

Meanwhile, Israelis looking to get their hands on Apple’s latest technology without traveling to Gaza will have to wait until December, when Israel’s mobile carriers will start selling the iPhone5.

Dutch Mark 20th Anniversary Of El Al Amsterdam Crash As Questions Linger

10/15/2012
Crash site in the Biljmer neighborhood in Amsterdam.

Chemical weapons, nuclear debris and Mossad agents in biohazard suits all have played prominent roles in the dozens of conspiracy theories surrounding the crash of an El Al airplane here 20 years ago this month.

But Rob Oudkerk, vice chairman of the Dutch parliament’s inquiry into the deadly crash, has studied and dismissed them all.

Slovenia, Estonia announce new shechitah restrictions

10/10/2012 | JTA

Slovenia’s National Assembly is set to vote on a proposed ban on all ritual slaughter, which the European Union member country’s government recently submitted for approval.

Estonia, meanwhile, has reportedly imposed new restrictions on its already stringent slaughter policy.

Dr. Igor Vojtic, a member of the executive board of Slovenia's Jewish community, told JTA that the proposed ban came in animal welfare amendments which the government adopted last month.

Explosives Lab Used To Bomb Kosher Store Found

10/10/2012 | JTA

French police found an explosives lab that they say was used by a "jihadist cell" in the bombing of a kosher store near Paris.

Francois Molins of the Paris prosecutor’s office said at a news conference Wednesday that the firearms and “all the elements necessary to produce explosive devices” were discovered the previous day at a parking lot in the eastern Paris suburb of Torcy.

French police found the cache after interrogating 12 suspects arrested over the weekend in various French cities, predominantly in Cannes and Paris, he added.

Will Iranian Nukes Re-Elect Netanyahu?

Tel Aviv — For weeks the possibility of an Israeli strike on Iran threatened to upend the presidential race between President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney. But now, it looks more likely that Iran will figure prominently in Israel’s elections next year.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu removed the cloud of possible war with Iran from the U.S. election when he told the United Nations last week (with the help of his by now famous bomb chart) that it would be take at least until spring 2013 to reach the “red line” for a military attack.
