Ayelet Galena, the 2-year-old daughter of Manhattan residents Seth and Hindy Poupko Galena in whose sake a nationwide bone marrow drive was conducted following her diagnosis with a compromised immune system shortly after she was born, died on Jan. 31.

She had undergone a bone marrow transplant five months ago at Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital.

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has denied involvement in the decision to hold a special Republican caucus in a Nevada county to accommodate Sabbath-observant Jewish voters.

Clark County last week moved its Feb. 4 caucus to 7 p.m., six hours after the state's totals are scheduled to be reported. Among the county's voters is Adelson, who with his wife recently donated $10 million to a super PAC formed to help GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.

The 19-year-old man charged in attacks on two northern New Jersey synagogues confessed to the crimes, prosecutors said.

Anthony Graziano confessed to the Jan. 11 firebomb attack on a synagogue and residence in Rutherford and the Jan. 3 arson attack on a synagogue in Paramus, Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Martin Delaney said Tuesday, according to reports.

Also Tuesday, Graziano pleaded not guilty to additional charges that he planned to attack the Jewish Community Center of Paramus.

 Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul reportedly signed off on racially charged newsletters in the 1990s, despite denying his involvement.

Paul said recently that he was not involved in the writing of and did not read the “Ron Paul Survival Report” pamphlets produced in the 1990s as part of a marketing campaign for a company and non-profit organization that was intertwined with his political career, the Washington Post reported Saturday, citing three people with direct knowledge of his business.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in attacks on two northern New Jersey synagogues.

Anthony M. Graziano of Lodi, N.J., was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the Jan. 11 firebomb attack on a synagogue and residence in neighboring Rutherford and the Jan. 3 arson attack on a synagogue in Paramus, the Record newspaper reported. Bail was set at $5 million.

Three haredi Orthodox men were arrested for assaulting a woman in Beit Shemesh.

On Tuesday, the woman was hanging posters for Israel's national lottery when the men reportedly surrounded her car, slashed her tires and stole her car keys. A stone thrown at the car hit the woman in the head.

Police helped the woman and arrested three suspects, Ynet reported. Other attackers reportedly fled the scene and are being sought by police. The woman filed a complaint with the police.

A substantial majority of Israelis want the country’s lawmakers to consider Diaspora Jewry when devising new legislation on Jewish identity issues, according to a poll.

Seventy-seven percent of respondents to a survey carried out last week by the Ruderman Family Foundation agreed that it was extremely important for members of the Knesset to consider Diaspora views, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The Israeli film “Footnote” and veteran Jewish filmmakers Woody Allen and Steven Spielberg are up for Academy Awards.

Oscar nominations were released Tuesday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Israel’s hope for its first Oscar was kept alive with Joseph Cedar’s “Footnote,” listed among the five finalists in the foreign-language film category. The story of the rivalry between two Talmudic scholars, who are also father and son, marks the second Oscar nod for Cedar following “Beaufort” in 2007.

Israeli hackers said they brought down the websites of the Saudi Stock Exchange and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.

The hackers, who call themselves IDF-Team, said in a post on the PasteBin website that Tuesday's attacks were in retaliation for the cyber attack the previous day on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and El Al website, adding that "This is only the beginning." The Israeli hackers also threatened to paralyze websites for up to a month if attacks on Israeli sites continue.

The Knesset Ethics Committee suspended Israeli-Arab lawmaker Ahmed Tibi after he attacked a fellow lawmaker with an insulting poem.

On Tuesday, the committee suspended Tibi for a week for reciting an original poem using dirty and hurtful language in an attack on Anastasia Michaeli, a lawmaker from the Yisrael Beiteinu Party, after she flung a glass of water on Israeli-Arab lawmaker Raleb Majadele.

Michaeli was suspended from the Knesset for a month for her actions.

Tibi can still participate in Knesset voting during his suspension.
