State Dept. Advising Modest Dress In Some Jerusalem Areas

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

The U.S. State Department in revised travel recommendations on Jerusalem advises visitors to "dress appropriately when visiting the Old City and ultra-orthodox Jewish neighborhoods."

The advisory for Israel, West Bank and Gaza Strip, in the section on Jerusalem updated last month, warns that "Assaults on secular visitors, either for being in cars or for being 'immodestly dressed,' have occurred in these neighborhoods."

Wonderful, now world travellers don't have to go to Afghanistan to see Taliban-style insanity in action. They can stay in the comfort of a modern hotel in Jerusalem and take a short walk to experience what religious fanaticism has to offer. I'm all for respect being a 2-way street. I'm all for the religious communities living the way they choose to. But their inability to show the same to others is frightening. Can you imagine what Israel would look like should they gain total political power? Here's a hint: Afghanistan, 1989 - 2001.

Maybe those making the assaults on women that they consider to be 'inappropriately' dressed, need the 'living crap kicked out of them?'

What is democratic about Israel, anyway?

In many ways, Israel shouldn't complain, about a certain country that they constantly bring up that was involved in WWII--and that they will 'run into the ground,' until the end of time.

I do not love it if this are my ttugohhs about. Any time I do see these strict and unilateral position I do suffer a lot, as I do believe this is not leading Israel to any better position, image and right.
