Actor Russell Crowe Tweets On 'Barbaric' Bris, 'Funny Hats'

Actor Russell Crowe apologized on Friday to anyone who was offended by his earlier remarks via Twitter about circumcision and later comments about Jews who like apples and honey and wear "funny hats."

"I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others," he said in a Twitter message on Friday. "I am very sorry." In another message he said "I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities ..."

Santa Monica Anti-Circumcision Backer Drops Ballot Measure Bid

(JTA) -- The main backer of a ballot measure to ban circumcision in Santa Monica has dropped the effort over its perceived attack on religious freedom.

Jena Troutman told the Jewish Journal Monday afternoon that she would withdraw the proposed ballot initiative to prohibit "Genital Cutting of Male Minors," which she submitted to the Santa Monica City Clerk on May 19, the newspaper reported on its website.

Joe Lieberman to Attend Glenn Beck Rally

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) plans to attend a Glenn Beck rally in Jerusalem.

"The idea of the 'Restoring Courage' gathering in Jerusalem is an important idea and a very constructive one at a very important time for Israel," Lieberman said in a video posted on the right wing talk show provocatuer's website this week. "It's not against anybody or any group, it's to stand with Israel at a time when a lot of the rest of the world is attempting to delegitimize Israel."

The Jerusalem rally is scheduled for Aug. 20.

Cantor: Weiner Should Resign

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the U.S. House of Representatives majority leader, called on Congressman Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) to resign.
Cantor's call Tuesday came a day after Weiner admitted to having innapropriate Internet relationships and lying about a lewd photo posted to his Twitter account.

"I don't condone his activity. And I think he should resign," Cantor said Tuesday after a Chamber of Commerce luncheon, the Charlottesville Daily Progress reported.

That’s the message some top Democratic Jewish figures are promoting to push back against the notion that Obama is out of step with the pro-Israel and Jewish communities.

30,000 March in New York’s Celebrate Israel Parade

(JTA) -- Thousands of New Yorkers participated in the annual Celebrate Israel Parade, which marched up Fifth Avenue amid a sea of blue-and-white flags.

The crowd was estimated at about 30,000 for the parade that was led by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, accompanied by Israeli Minister of Information and Diaspora Yuli Edelstein, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren, and Israel’s Consul General in New York Ido Aharoni.
