NEW YORK (JTA) -- Benjamin Netanyahu, Mark Zuckerberg and Gabrielle Giffords are among Time magazine's list of the most influential people of the year.

The magazine's list of the most influential people in the world, the 2011 Time 100, came out Thursday.

Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, leads a country that is successful economically and its citizens feel relatively safe, writes Richard Haass, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Helen Thomas Cancels Participation in Anti-AIPAC Confab

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Helen Thomas has cancelled her participation in a pro-Palestinian conference aiming to counter AIPAC's annual gathering.

Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer are scheduled to speak at "Move Over AIPAC" in Washington from May 21 to 24, coinciding with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's annual conference. The program is being run by a coalition of about 100 leftist and pro-Palestinian groups, led by Code Pink and the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation.

Report: Palestinian Authority wants $5 billion to build state

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The Palestinian Authority is asking Western countries for nearly $5 billion in order to develop a Palestinian state.

PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad was set to make the pitch to representatives of Western countries during a meeting Wednesday in Brussels, Reuters reported.

The plan, obtained by Reuters, calls for $1.467 billion in 2011, $1.754 billion in 2012 and $1.596 billion for 2013. It reportedly will be presented formally to donor countries at a pledging conference in June.

Clinton: U.S. will renew peace effort

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The United States will renew its push for Israeli-Palestinian peace, Hillary Rodham Clinton said.

The U.S. secretary of state was outlining strategies for addressing the turmoil currently sweeping the Middle East in an address Tuesday to the U.S.-Islamic World Forum.
