(JTA) — Alan Dershowitz reportedly turned down an offer to serve as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman assiduously courted the well-known Jewish-American lawyer, Yediot Achronot reported Tuesday. If he had accepted, Dershowitz , 72, would have had to make aliyah.

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Alan Dershowitz reportedly turned down an offer to serve as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman assiduously courted the well-known Jewish-American lawyer, Yediot Achronot reported Tuesday.

If he had accepted Israel's most senior diplomatic post, Dershowitz , 72, would have had to make aliyah.

Dershowitz is a prominent advocate for Israel in the United States.

Lieberman Thanks Clinton on UNESCO

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Israel’s foreign minister thanked Hillary Rodham Clinton for removing items critical of Israel from UNESCO’s agenda.

The United States’ “strong and consistent position,” Avigdor Lieberman wrote in an April 25 letter to the U.S. secretary of state, “prevented the introduction of five anti-Israel resolutions initiated by the Arab group.”
