University Of Haifa Starts Israel's First Program For Study Of American Jewry

Israel’s first-ever academic program devoted to the study of American Jewry is launching this fall at the University of Haifa. According to the Jewish News Service (JNS), the Ruderman Family Foundation made an initial $1 million contribution to the one-year, seven-course program, an amount matched by University of Haifa.

The Jewish Education Service of North America (JESNA) will cease operations as of July 1. In an announcement sent out Friday, Cass Gottlieb, chair of JESNA's board of directors, noted the dramatic changes that have taken place in the communal and educational landscapes in recent years.

Jewish Week Wins Six Awards From American Jewish Press Association

The Jewish Week took home six awards for excellence in Jewish journalism from the American Jewish Press Association's annual banquet in Philadelphia Wednesday.

The awards included first and second place honors in both the new and feature categories in the annual Simon Rockower contest, as well as first place honors for best personality profile and special sections.
