Worcester, Mass. — Jacob Neusner, the famed scholar and almost mythically prolific author who died Oct. 8 at age 84,  almost singlehandedly created the modern study of Judaism, and in doing so he revolutionized our understanding of the history of Judaism and our perception of what Judaism can mean to Jews today.

U.C. Berkeley Opens Jewish Studies Center

The College's new program is launched amid a campus known for its anti-Israel activism.

U.C. Berkeley has announced the opening of a new Center for Jewish Studies, JWeekly has reported. The literary scholar Robert Alter is set as the Center's founding director, and the University has allocated $1 million to jumpstart the program.
