WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Israel's U.S. ambassador formally met with the director of J Street.

"The conversation, which took place at the Israeli Embassy, lasted approximately one hour and covered a wide range of topics, including the peace process, the U.S.-Israel relationship and Iran," said a statement from the group describing the Thursday afternoon meeting between Ambassador Michael Oren and Jeremy Ben-Ami.

Clinton to P.A.: Talk to Israel

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton urged the Palestinian Authority to join negotiations with Israel.

"We strongly urge President Abbas and his government to join negotiations with Israel now," the U.S. Secretary of State said Thursday evening, addressing a Center for Middle East Peace dinner.

Remembering What Truly Matters

If the current administration in Washington is sincere in its stated goal of working aggressively to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the days and months ahead will be even more difficult and confusing than the past few weeks have been.

Special to the Jewish Week

Following last week's somber ceremonies marking Yom Hashoa, Israel will, on this coming Monday, observe its annual Yom Hazikaron, a solemn memorial day for her fallen soldiers. Rare is the family in Israel that does not know someone who has died in Israel's defense, or have a family member who has. And then, on Monday evening, the celebration of Yom Ha'atzma'ut, Israel's Independence Day, will begin.
