Israeli Army To Charge Gaza War Soldiers

 (JTA) — Israel’s chief army prosecutor will bring charges against some Israeli soldiers for their conduct during the Gaza war.

In one case, an army staff sergeant will be indicted on manslaughter charges for shooting and killing two women near Gaza City.

Hamas Leader Condemns Shalit Video

(JTA) —  A senior Hamas leader has condemned the cartoon video released by the terrorist organization’s armed wing showing Gilad Shalit returning in a coffin.
 
Mahmoud al-Zahar, a co-founder of Hamas on Monday condemned the video showing the captive Israeli soldier’s father wandering deserted streets looking at billboard after billboard of Israeli leaders promising to work for his son’s release.

They were coming to get away from the bombs. But the ninth graders from Sderot got here shortly after four Muslim men tried to blow up two synagogues in Riverdale.

Turns out it was probably quieter in the southern Israeli city near the Gaza border — which has been calmer since the end of the Gaza war — than it was here, with Jews on edge in the wake of the foiled bomb plot.

Moves on Goldstone Bar Mitzvah Spark Brouhaha

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (JTA) -- Talk about shul politics.

In the interest of avoiding a disruption of his grandson’s bar mitzvah, Judge Richard Goldstone, author of the Goldstone report on the 2009 Gaza war, told JTA last week that he would not attend the family simcha next month at a Johannesburg synagogue.

But in case Goldstone has any second thoughts, a leading South African Jewish group announced it is ready to protest should he show up.
