Hate Speech Has No Place in a Synagogue

Special To The Jewish Week
Rabbi Michael White and Rabbi Jerome Davidson
Rabbi Michael White and Rabbi Jerome Davidson

We write as rabbis devoted both to our faith community and to human rights for all peoples.  We were disheartened to learn that the Great Neck Synagogue has invited Pamela Geller to speak on April 14. Geller has a long track record of hateful and virulently anti-Muslim views that seek to divide American Muslims and Jews, rather than unite them.

Both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League have  designated Geller’s “Stop Islamization of America” organization as a hate group. As was recently reported in the Jewish Week, Etzion Neuer, director of community service and policy for the ADL’s New York region, said that Geller “under the guise of fighting radical Islam, absolutely demonizes an entire religion. In directing her rhetoric at the entire Islamic faith, she fuels anti-Islamic bigotry. Geller doesn’t do us any favors,” he continued. “She muddies the waters because she hands the platform to the extremists in our midst. Instead of thoughtful, fact-based dialogue on the issues, we get incendiary rhetoric and xenophobia.”

We cherish our relationships and friendships within the local Muslim community. Both Temple Beth El of Great Neck and Temple Sinai of Roslyn share deep and abiding connections with the Islamic Center of Long Island. Our communities have broken bread together, studied together, engaged in social action projects together, and our children have learned from each other as well.  The local Muslim community adds immeasurably to Long Island’s vitality, and we are blessed by their commitment to the betterment of our society. Their presence among us affirms the essence of America’s greatness, a nation founded on the principles of democratic pluralism.

We state unequivocally that Geller’s inflammatory rhetoric does not represent us or the great majority of Jews in Great Neck and on Long Island. Hate speech has no place in synagogues. Synagogues should be places for worship, positive dialogue and reasoned political debate. The right of free speech is vitally important, but Geller crosses the line from political to hate speech. In sharp contrast, Judaism teaches us to respect the traditions and values of other faiths.

Last fall the group T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights (formerly Rabbis For Human Rights-North America) echoed that sentiment with its effective New York City subway ad campaign that countered Geller’s offensive anti-Muslim subway posters.  T’ruah’s message challenged: “In the choice between love and hate, choose love. Help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors.”

We share T’ruah’s vision, reflecting our faith’s mandate to work for understanding, unity and peace among all humanity. Geller’s messages seek to divide peoples, and fail to acknowledge that even with significant political differences, Jews and Muslims are working to build the world of justice and compassion that both faiths demand. Rather than trying to denigrate a diverse community and rich tradition, we must find ways of respecting one another and working together on shared concerns.

At this season of the year following the Passover festival, Jews study a tractate of the Talmud called Ethics of the Fathers.  We are mindful of Hillel’s enduring words in the opening chapter: “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” The time is now to stand – for ourselves, for our fellow citizens, for our common humanity and kinship.

We hope Great Neck Synagogue leaders will take a hard look at their decision and ask themselves why they are giving a platform to someone who has devoted her life to defaming fellow Americans of a different Abrahamic religion.

Rabbi Michael White is the Senior Rabbi at Temple Sinai of Roslyn. Rabbi Jerome Davidson is Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck and teaches at the Hebrew Union College, New York City.

The Jewish Week feels comments create a valuable conversation and wants to feature your thoughts on our website. To make everyone feel welcome, we won't publish comments that are profane, irrelevant, promotional or make personal attacks.

Dear Rabbi Michael White and Rabbi Jerome Davidson,
As a muslim American I have nothing but the utmost respect for both of you, you both are truly heroes not just to the communities in your area, but communities around the world who strive for peace. You are an archetype for social justice and equality, you clearly represent the amazing qualities of Judaism. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for this letter. I took the time out of my medical school studies to write you this comment because you have truly touched my heart.

Pamela Geller is not afraid to speak the truth about our Muslim oppressors. The Muslims want to exterminate Jews; in fact, they have been doing it for centuries. They stole Judea and Samaria from us and call us "illegal settlers" when we try to return there.

The Koran is full of hate speech. Ms. Geller is just trying to point this out. We should be concerned about this religion. Their book calls us out by name many times.

[5.51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.
Qur'an (3:28) - "Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah: except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them..." This last part means that the Muslim is allowed to feign friendship if it is of benefit. Renowned scholar Ibn Kathir states that "believers are allowed to show friendship outwardly, but never inwardly."
2:191 And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers.
"The Day of Judgement will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews , when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdullah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews." (related by al-Bukhari and Muslim).Sahih Muslim, 41:6985, see also Sahih Muslim, 41:6981, Sahih Muslim, 41:6982, Sahih Muslim, 41:6983, Sahih Muslim, 41:6984, Sahih al-Bukhari, 4:56:791,(Sahih al-Bukhari, 4:52:177)

Everything you quotes is 100% incorrect i have read the Bible, Quraan, and Torah. So please do yourself a favor and get educated. Because one of the basic things in the Quraan is to treat all religions equally and have respect for all human beings. So when you have comments to make please do your research before you post as you are one of many who hate Muslims just to hate them for actions of some. Not all Muslims hate Jews and not all Jews hate Muslims if you will be posting ignorant and misleading comments please leave them to yourself.

The blind support for Geller is shocking and I say blind because no one in their right mind who has read her hate filled quotes can possibly back her. She has frequently demanded the deportation af all pious Muslims..the only ones that can remain in her line of thinking are thosethat don't practice their religion at all. She has condoned and suggested violence against Muslims many times in her blog.

Nonsense Pamela Geller does not advocate violence against Muslims. In fact she aids Muslim women and men whose lives are being threatened by their families and/or their communities .
There are many Muslim and Arab and former Muslim men and women who suppity Ms Geller's work and are also trying to get the west to wake up to threat to freedom ( and to life ) posed by Islamists- from Isis to Hamas to Cair - all over the world. They include brave truth - speakers such as Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Nonie Darwish, Walid Shoebat, Brigitte Gabriel, Wafir Sultan , Ibn Warraq, and others.
Winston Churchill was thrown out of Parliament for sounding the warning bell of Hitler . Denial, appeasement, wishful thinking will not keep these rabbis safe. Most proplec would all like to live in a peaceful , harmonious world , but in every age evil rises up in the form of different isms and movements. The Jews are always the first - and often the first targeted by thus evil - often the most hated by these movements that wreak havoc to millions across the globe.

The reason her quotes are full of hate is simply that these quotes are taken DIRECTLY FROM THE KORAN. Anyone can read these quotes, taken from the Koran. If you are non-Muslim, and interested in your self-preservation, you would be well advised to delve a little into the Koran, to see how YOU are to be treated.
Search 'TROP', and quickly find out how YOU will be treated.

It's clear that these two Rabbis are not able to distinguish between a threat and the naive, 'just give peace a chance' dreamy world they are hoping for. Whether you are left, right or center -- Ms. Geller's position is to wake up and smell the coffee about a radical political system that consistently calls for the destruction of Jews, the beheading of all infidels, the stoning of lovers and the hanging of gays. Fanatic Imams say directly that even if Jews left Palestine - that they should still be despised. Why? Because the Koran says so.

Where is the Rabbi's outrage about all this?

Just because Ms. Geller points these facts out - and critiques those who try and scrub fanatic Islamic positions authorized in the Koran like female genital mutilation, sexual enslavement for the spoils of war etc. etc. - and she questions those who support or don't speak out against this system - why is she accused of "hate" speech?

Sadly, the situation today again of Jews mostly coming to the defense of those trying to destroy them is just another example of our own historic self-destructiveness. Rabbi's White and Davidson surely don't see it, but they are acting like 'waterboys' for Sharia blasphemy laws - trying to silence those critical of fanatic fundamentalism. Wake up gentlemen. Your interfaith mindset is well-meaning, but an illusion.

I was going to post a comment but this comment sums up what I was going to say exactly!!!!

"Hate speech" is perfectly constitutional and legal here in the USA.

You are absolutely correct stating "hate speech' is perfectly constitutional and legal here in the USA" unless of course it is you speaking the hate and not against you.

There's something very disturbingly missing from the above column: it lacks ANY direct quotes of Geller's writings! We're all just supposed to take it on faith that she promotes "hate speech." Where's the evidence? I'm supposed to take that on faith because two advocacy groups say so? Boy, I thought Reform Rabbis questioned things a bit more than that. This column is really an great example of the willful naivete of so many American lefties, who refuse to admit that Jihadism is the real problem in the world and not global warming or 32 oz. sodas.

Quoting from first sentence, paragraph 4 :
Awesome statement from two educated Jews (sic). I would like to see some substantiation of that "unequivocally" statement.
Sources, PLEASE GENTLEMEN.. I anxiously await your response to this request, posted here on the comment board, or perhaps in another erudite (sic) column of yours.
In addition, we would appreciate your giving us an unequivocal
percentage of Jews who could have fled Europe pre-Holocaust, but who chose to stay, many (but not all) because their Rabbi's told them to. Hashem would never let anything harmful happen to his chosen people. MY IN-LAWS FLED POLAND BY TRAIN WITH FORGED PAPERS, UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYE OF THE GESTAPO, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY A POLE ON THE TRAIN POINTED TO THE MOTHER-IN-LAW PROCLAIMING HER A JEW.

With co-religionists like davidson and white, we do not need enemies. brain dead liberals, atavistic, embrace the enemy, thank you Davidson and White, why don't you just go and join some Jihad. liberal intellectual Jews, who turn out to be more dangerous than our enemies, Shame on you Davidson and WhIte. You make me ashamed to be Jewish. Go, start a "liberal islam mosque. Embrace the violent sector of Islam, oh, how stupid of me, you already have.

Geller is not preaching against individual Muslims. She is addressing the dominant leadership within the political and religious institutions of Muslim countries, and the culture of anti-Semitism/anti_Jewish teachings that dominates much of the Muslim population in the world. This does not negate the efforts of reaching out and building bridges. However, this must be an honest dialogue. The Rabbis must address the virulent anti-Semitism in the mosques, religious schools, and the press and government organs around the world.

This idealistic relationship which the two Rabbis reference, existed in Europe in the 1920's and 1930's in Europe among many interfaith groups which saught to build bridges. However, the intellectual level of relationship did not reach the 'street level' and failed to address the anti-Semetic nuances and statements in Christian teaching engrafted onto the original Faith, that have nothing to do with the message of teh Apostles. Surrender by secularists and apologists did not save them from the Nazis.

The honest, harder approach of having the self confidence to support and demand, self-determination for the nation of Israel, with security, freedom for the Jewish people, with a united capita, will reqluire more fortitude. In the end, however, that strong, honest approach is the tried and true path to non-violent cooperative co-exitence.

Half of the people who are poring their outright hatred against an entire religion and trashing the Rabbi's decision not to allow such hate speech in the house of worship are anything but Jews. Most probably they are bunch of right wing Christians or maybe Coptic Christians who brought their hatred back from Middle East or someone have preconceived judgement already. Hate speech is not always a free speech! Blaming Jews for the suffering of the Germany was the free speech by Nazis which led the staring of the holocaust. You can't go to a movie theater and scream fire and hide under the free speech.

i do not know from where you originate, this world or the next, or a rock.. Your hatred seems to very equally dispersed. Perhaps you should read some history re persecution of Coptic Christians. Your hate has no bounds, but your intellect is extremely limited. Try starting over again in kindergarden. Maybe one run by Davidson, or for that matter, a US govt agency. OOPS, that will get me on the terrorist list already several hundred thousand strong and growing by leaps and bounds. The 11th commandment, is "Thou shalt not criticize one's gov't." OOPS again, now I am on the "no-fly list". I think you should move to the middle east.

The answer to speech that you don't like is more speech. I am sorry to hear that you are using Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League as your sources to claim "Hate Speech" against Pamela Geller. Both of those organizations are radical and are against "Free Speech". There policies seek to censor anyone who does not agree with them. They have no credibility!

Sorry Rabbis, if Muslims cannot handle living in a free country, where we thrive on free speech, they are welcomed to go back to where they came from. Free speech often offends someone, that is their problem. We do not cave into censorship. Period.+

Whilst not being a fan of Geller and her outlandish claims - to describe her as a peddler of hate is extreme. It appears that those that object to the precepts of Islam are labelled 'bigots' or 'Islamophobic' - a made up term I refuse to recognize.

You can call it whatever you want, muslim hater, islamophobe, etc, and all terms are in one sence or another "made up". But to deny the existence of people that hate muslims are truly outlandish. Antisemitism is another word that is "made up" (by Wilhelm Marr), you don´t think that exist?

Spreading hate is polluting the soul. Anyone who thinks their religion is better than another's is an ignorant fanatic full of hate. Education about others is a good way of abolishing ignorance and hatred of the unknown.

Every one of us who possesses any measure of real faith, believes in their heart that their form of worship is better, purer, and certainly more beneficial, than that of anyone else's. If we thought that it wasn't better, or if we thought it less, then why bother with it at all?
This is the reason that HaShem gave us the laws of kashrut. These laws are one huge object lesson in keeping the holy separate from the profane. Be it in what we eat, wear, who we marry, and most certainly, who and how we worship. The keeping of these laws,is what ultimately provided an acceptable line for the Messiah to be born into.
Do you really believe that Paganism is as holy and acceptable to G-d as Judaism, or true Christianity? Because if you do, then why even bother to worship at all? So you are either a person of no faith, or you are a lier. Be careful who you label as haters. Remember, that the followers of Islam truly believe that Jews are the descendants of "apes and pigs." So unless you share their belief, why would you defend it?

You do know that Muslims accepts Jesus, a Jew, as a prophet, don't you? So much for your propaganda that the followers of Islam truly believe that Jews are the descendants of "apes and pigs". Lier!

Quran said: “And ask them about that town which stood by the sea: how its people would profane the Sabbath whenever their fish came to them, breaking the water’s surface, on a day on which they ought to have kept Sabbath - because they would not come to them on other than Sabbath-days!...And then, when they disdainfully persisted in doing what they had been forbidden to do, We said unto them: ‘Be as apes despicable!’‘’ (7:163-166)

We need to read it with our own eyes from quran so we can be true believer in whatever belief we want to choose. A lot of verses in quran that r taken but not reading previos verses n after. So its like watching rambo movie holding weapon n doesnt wanna know the whole scene to get idea whats going on. There r good muslims, good jews, good christians, good hindus, good atheists, etc. we just have to stop acting God, let God judge. Our duty is to contribute kindness in multi-kulti society. Perform justice. We r brothers n sisters in humanity.

Baaruch Hashim. Thank you, Rabbi. Toleration, compassion, justice, merciful, honest, sincere are prophets's characteristic.

Quran said God cursed some people at that time who disbelieve prophet's moses. As hod punishment. Pls read it all in quran nit taking from unknown source. We r all brithers in humanity. A hater would find all excuses just to hate. If we r true believer then we tend to be like prophet showed us. Compassion, justice, merciful, etc. and to rabbi.. Thank you so much. Baaruch hashim. Shalom from yr muslim sister. Good muslim, good jew, good christian, good budhist, etc can spark society with good deeds. Even those who ate atheists. Contribute kindness to multi-kulti society will make erfect harmony. Lets not act God. We are just human who need each other.

Geller's tactics are the same as the ones used by the Nazis in the 30s. Yes, history does repeat itself. Jews should see this familiar pattern. But many don't see it unless THEY are the victim.

d'oh! I think the present article blows you little bit of hate philosophy right out of the water. But folks like you aren't the smartest kids on the block, never have been, never will be.

Have either of these Rabbis ever read Islam's core texts?
The Rambam, in his Epistle to the Jews of Yemen referred to mohammed as a "meshuggah"

CAIR is an Muslim "Brodeurbundt" front group.

Muslims controlling our First Amendment.. imagine that! You Rabbis are merely holding the door open to a path that you have created.. the path to further control and dominance by the political ideology of of islam...

Thank you for this piece Rabbis White and Davidson. Pamela Gellar and her ilk are charlatans are who are laughing all the way to the bank because of their easily convinced hate groupies like some of the people posting in this comment section.

Shame on those of you who speak without knowledge to slander an entire religion and an entire community! If they were not so self involved, Jews of all people would know better than anyone where such demonization leads. And many Jews do know this and set an inspiring example-- but too many others are blind and insensible to their wisdom.

However the Geller message gets across to some of you because her simplifications and distortions support right wing resentment and paranoia. Yes there have been some very troubling movements among some Muslims, just as there are reformists.

In its diversity the Muslim community is not really so different than the Jewish community and the relation of text and interpretation, culture and normative behavior is complex. There are many Muslim & non Muslim critics of modern terrorist movements and revolutionary triumphalist views with a more accurate analysis of the problems.

Robert Spencer and Pam Geller (and others) are a well funded gang of haters who spreads lies in legislatures, subway systems and now synagogues-- weakening our chance to work together for a more peaceful world. Without dialogue and accurate understanding we condemn our children and the world to future tragedies, massacres & war.

Thank you Rabbis, for your stand on plurality and righteousness. Its disheartening to see the many commentators on here jump on her hate bandwagon. They clearly allow others to think for them. Keep up the excellent work.

SPLC calling Geller's organization a hate group is like a blackened pot calling a shiny kettle black. SPLC is a far left organization that uses heavy-duty hate-mongering to smear any groups and individuals who are effective in opposing any of its agendas. Fighting neo-Nazis, white supremacists, etc. is no longer the primary item on its agenda.

All the Abrahamic religions have their fanatical wings, and these all are anti-human, intolerant and destructive of local, regional and world peace. Islam differs only in that, for the world as a whole, it is much more dominated by its fanatical wing than are Judaism and Christianity, and even the fanatical wings of Judaism and Christianity aren't much into killing infidels these days.

Just as in Germany in the 1930s the minority Nazi party came to dominate for a decade the non-Nazi majority in the country.

Groups like CAIR that self-label as moderate and other spokespersons for Islam in the U.S. deservedly will remain under suspicion until they loudly, publicly and frequently condemn Islamic fanaticism, persecution of non-Moslems, and refusal to accept the principle of mosque-state separation, as these are found in the Constitutions, laws and behavior of most Moslem-dominated nations.

That said, it is also true that the so-called moderate wings of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, so long as they exist, will always be the breeding grounds for the fanatics of future generations. Once a person is convinced that a particular set of ancient texts and self-appointed prophets contain/spoke the Absolute Truth and Inviolable Laws, that person becomes a pawn who can be easily convinced by charismatic zealots to hate and kill members of other "tribes,' especially if those other tribes have more fertile lands with more abundant game. The writing is on the wall.

And you that "Lucifer" was a joke....

Not one of the esteemed rabbi's criticisms includes any quotes by Ms. Geller. Nor do any of the anti-free speech comments above. I am sure the rabbis must have scoured her blog and other writings in search of examples of hate and they came up with zilch. Hence their statements against Pamela include nothing but sanctimonious generalizations. The thinking concerned members of their congregations must demand the hard facts that justify locking out a particular viewpoint.

These two "reformed" rabbis are nothing more than clueless dhimmis to Muslims. I support Pamela Geller 100% because she doesn't submit to Jihadists like these two rabbi bozos do. Shame on you bozos!

I am with you...

I truly don't understand those of you, who are usually the first to cry for free speech, are now the first to take that right away from Ms. Geller. You are also the last to speak out against the very real threat of radical islam. This is a very real threat, experienced by millions around the world on a daily basis. By closing your eyes to it, you are empowering it. It is truly sad that in the name of PC you stand by and let millions suffer.

you attack islam and defend those who attack islam. where will that lead to? are you going to purge all the followers of the religion out of the US, like some dream of doing so to the 'philistines' from the so-called 'promised land', folks?

let me tell you the real story behind the fantasy myths of a holy book ... a jealous, revengeful, deceitful, murderous "god" promised a group of people some real estate if they follow "him". that god permits genocide of the native philistines, and even their own people under sinai.

now such a description would not only offend jews, but also entire global muslim population, as they believe in the glossed up version of those events as well. so, if such speech is antisemetic, then why not islamophobe as well? why only pity the feelings of jews, but ignore the offense caused to muslims?

you are all the same. jews, christians, muslims, hindus, sikhs etc. you all 'believe' in your own superiority over others, religiously. you all have 'faith' in reality-bending tales that make you look like fools. you all 'worship' your own version of the creator.

and it is this 'religion' of yours that make you fear and hate others. if not for the "god's promise", how else can jews from europe get automatic citizenship of the state of israeel? if not for the "word of god", why else would muslims from indonesia get all worked up about human rights abuses in occupied palestine?

so, please continue your 'enlightened' hatred and disgust for the 'cult' of islam. you are being as blind to their sentiments as you claim they are being to yours.

although I believe in God, I know exactly how you think because I thought the same. Atheism makes sense, I know. After seeing such hateful comments from everywhere, bad mouthing each others religions like children, like we have better toys or the better car, I agree with you and negative hateful people was what led me away from religion. Don't let people ruin religion. It's a dangerous path. It looks dangerous to be overly religious and hateful towards other religions (which it is clearly on the news; muslim violence and the after effect of violence and hatred toward muslims) atheism makes sense because none of the 'religious people' are behaving like religious and tolerant people should. Atheist looks like the answer because when people are reading their Torah, Bible, and Quran and are angry when they woke up or racist because of their parents, people will paint you a different picture of their beliefs which is far more different than the same exact God intended. Atheism may not appear to harm in the obvious sense like the violence on the news, but it can damage you mentally. Trust me. You're clearly smart though and can think for yourself. It's your own path you'll have to go through because I know when I thought like you, I was a little stubborn and wanted to blame God and thought that God regretted making people because of the stupidity people left in their comment boxes. Just don't let people's negativity and hate ruin faith in God and hope for humanity. There's good people in every religion and race. Don't surround yourself with the negative ones and you'll be happy inside.
Hope you take it easy because what you typed looks like I typed it a year ago. :-/

I am reposting, here, what I posted on Pam Geller's blog:

We need fully to understand what is happening here. The cancellation of Pamela Geller's talk at the Great Neck Synagogue is NOT a victory for Muslims.

What do average people conclude when cancellations like this occur? They conclude that Muslims stifle dialogue. That conclusion does not redound to Muslims' benefit. It makes Muslims look oppressive.

Freedom of speech is a cherished American value. It is in our spinal column as Americans. It is in our American DNA. We think of our veterans as fighting and dying to protect free speech. We think of America as special because of free speech. We think of America as better than other countries because of free speech.

Cancellations like this cause Americans to associate Muslims with hostility to free speech. That does not help Muslims.

People need to be able to *talk.* As Churchill famously said, "Jaw jaw is better than war war." It is better to talk than to fight. Americans desperately need free and open speech about Islam, speech that is not restrained by restrictive speech codes. We need to hear all sides and make up our own minds about who is right. We don't need thought police making up our minds for us. We will resent that.

When people see their freedoms slipping away, when people see public conversation stifled, people conclude that the only choices they have left are extreme choices.

Those who militated for the cancellation of this talk did not do Muslims any favors. They made the public atmosphere more tense, more fearful, more resentful, more volatile, and more open to extremism.

What is the best choice for Muslims and their supporters? Let critics of Islam speak openly in the American marketplace of ideas, just as critics of Christianity, Catholicism, and Judaism speak openly.

Respond to that criticism, not with threats of violence that force cancellations, but with reasoned words. With intellect. With speech.

Stifling of free speech hurts everyone

Stifling of hate speech benefits everyone. As to some of the other people that selectively quote horrible passages from the Koran, why don't you quote the gospel of matthew about jews, or why dont you quote some of the awful passages in the talmud about christians, or even better, the passages from the torah where god commands the jews to slaughter the cannanites, etc etc.

Here is what islam has to say about Jews:

Quran chapter5 Verse 5: " Oh believers do not hold jews and christians as your friends, they are friends to one another, and anyone who makes them his friend, is one of them..."

Salih muslim book 41 number 6985: "...The last hour would not come unless the muslims fight against the Jews and the muslims kill the jews until the jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a jew behind me, come and kill him..."

And alot more crap like this is in their "holy scriptures". There can't be friendship whith those whose holy scriptures teach them to kill you and your loved ones. Jews (and christians) should not show any naiveté when dealing with muslims, or they place themselves and their loved-ones in deadly danger.

One thing, guys. Pamela Geller does not engage in hate speech. You should be better informed before you engage in such slanders. Pamela Geller is a great human rights champion who is the most important voice for exposing and challenging persecution of non-Muslims by extremist Muslims, Muslim oppression of women, and Muslim honor killings. Unfortunately, it is the confusion demonstrated by individuals such as the two of you who are leading diaspora Jewry to its moral decline and probably, its eventual disappearance, save for some of the Orthodox. Not all Muslims support violent jihad, sharia and anti-semitism, but many do. Those that don't do nothing to silence and reject those that do. Indeed, the distorted presentation you have made of Pamela Geller is no better than the hate and bigotry that you decry.

Its sad to see so many misinformed and xenophobic speech. The demonization of Muslims from ignorant people calling this bigot "as she's speaking the truth" when her views are from an academic and intellectual standpoint obviously hate. I suggest those who actually do the posting to actually talk to a Muslim. Also, remind you there were thousands of Muslims who saved Jewish brothers and sisters during the holocaust. As a study in the Middle East, I find it sad the stupidity and how misinformed you all are about the area. As this war-torn area. Jews and Muslims in Middle East actually HISTORICALLY got along quite well..yes there were conflicts. was not until UK/US foreign policy messed it up. I suggest you stop watching Fox News and read the Quran. You can pick and choose things out of context. I ask why have none of you quoted how 'Muslims must treat their neighbors well...or those oppressed Muslim or non-Muslim" As a scholar I can pull tons of anti-sematic quotes/anti-gender ..xenophobic sentences from the Bible. All things can be taking out of context. Us Native Americans/Blacks/Latin are sick of this culture that brews idiots. I'm sure you think Mexicans are lazy and pay no taxes Right? Black people are just criminals since the take up are jails? Right? Native Americans are just alcoholics?Right. I hope you realize the ugliness by me mirroring your ignorant and idiotic views. Take a history course....religious couse..Stop watching FoxNews and actually get out of this denial that you know the "Truth" when obviously you don't. I have plenty of Muslim friends..Jewish friends..Christian..etc. Get some intelligence people!

I guess 'Truth' is the new 'Hate' Speech.... 1400 years of Islamic history, will prove that Islam is far from 'peaceful'!! The number one reason for the Crusades was due to muslim aggression!! We also fought 'Islamic Terrorism' in the early years of this Country called the "Barbary Wars" under Thomas Jefferson as President and we won!!
It's the Ideology of Islam, it's inconsistent with the principles of any religion.....
(1.) Name one religion that "Kills" you if you leave it,(apostasy) yet today....only Islam puts a death threat on ones life!!
(2.) They believe Islamic Law trumps our man-made Laws.
Great Neck Synagogue can't handle the "Truth" obviously, and heaven forbid anyone exercise freedom of speech and present a truthful view of Islam in America. You have been deceived by Islam.....wake up!!

Hate speech is really just truth speech for those who love lies.

Do your Muslim friends include Habeeb Ahmed the local human rights council member and an Islamic supremicist, who exerted all the pressure to cancel Geller's speech? So now non-Jews have stopped a Jew from speaking in a Jewish house of worship.

Not often that you see such inspired bowing and scraping in one article.

I think these "rabbis" know nothing of what they speak. I hope their "sermons" are more factual than this editorial...somehow I doubt it., I feel badly for their congregants...they are deprived of authentic jewish thoughts.
