Appalled At Israel’s Actions
Tue, 08/12/2014 - 20:00

Regarding Editor’s column, “I Support Israel, But…’ (Aug. 8), all of you who support Israel need to recognize that there is a large and growing portion of the Jewish community that is appalled at Israel’s actions.

We are not anti-Semitic, we are not self-hating, we are a concerned part of the Jewish community. You may not agree with us, but I suggest you open your mind and hear our point of view. We believe that the occupation is wrong and is punishing innocent Palestinian civilians. We believe that it is hurting Jewish people everywhere.

Obviously no one wants to see war and carnage. And the current situation in gaza is tragic. However taking the position that this is occurring in a vacuum as though Israel exists on the French riviera is disingenuous. Mr Saltzman has every right to his feelings and I encourage him to begin studying Arabic so that he can begin to understand the context of what he believes and exposes in a radicalized region. For myself and my breatheren in Israel I pray for peace with our neighbors that want that, a peace where I am allowed to be seen as an equal in Arab lands and not have to bow to Mohammad.

Many who believe as you do must keep silent or be ostracized in their communities.
