Tony Lo Bianco, the Italian American actor from Brooklyn, was feeling depressed. He was at a luncheon for the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP), one of the regular informative events produced by Jeffrey Wiesenfeld at his office at Bernstein Global Wealth Management.

“I’ve attended many of these events,” Lo Bianco said, “and I’m depressed because of the hopelessness. It looks like we’re losing the battle in the colleges.”

Jewish Democrat Council Leader Stepping Down

David Harris is leaving his job as president of the National Jewish Democratic Council.

"With the confidence of knowing that I’ve accomplished key goals here at NJDC that are central to our mission, I’m very much looking forward to new professional challenges and directions," Harris said in a statement released Wednesday after he announced his decision to the body's board.

Harris has helmed the group since 2009 and has worked to counter Republican efforts depicting President Obama as unfriendly to Israel.

Out on a high note: Harris moving on.

Rep. Ryan (R-Wis.), the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives budget committee, has taken a lead role in the stand-off between the White House and the Democratic-led Senate on one side and the Republican-led House on the other, that has stymied passage of a budget.

Sheldon Adelson Sues Jewish Democrat Group For Alleged Defamation

Sheldon Adelson's $60 million defamation lawsuit against the National Jewish Democratic Council describes extensive efforts by his representatives, including Alan Dershowitz, to talk the group into apologizing for intimating that the casino magnate approved of prostitution.

The 16-page lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New York.

President Barack Obama would receive 61 percent of the Jewish vote compared with just 28 percent for former Gov. Mitt Romney if the election was held now.

Most religiously observant Jews (weekly synagogue-goers) said they plan to re-elect Obama. Two-thirds of Jewish women plan to do the same, compared to 55 percent of Jewish men.

Times' Friedman Responds On `Israel Lobby' Phrase

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman told The Jewish Week Tuesday that the wording of a memorable phrase in his Dec. 13 column (“Newt, Mitt, Bibi and Vladimir”) may have been inexact when he wrote that the standing ovation Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received in Congress this year “was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby.”
