Here we go again! First, there was an 18 million dollar reserve fund in ER back in 2009. Despite warnings from trustee Price, the board used all of the reserves BEFORE the tax cap was imposed. Second, the board approved union contracts that would have increased the budget by over 4%, yet they put forth a .25% increase. Of course, that began the path of financial ruin & destruction of the educational program. It wasn't a secret that the tax cap was coming, but the board just kept spending down the reserves to keep taxes lower. See, no other responsible board that cared about public education acted so recklessly and they saved for the 'rainy day' that the tax cap would bring. No other school district laid off over 450 employees, let the buildings fall into disrepair, because they had a plan. The plan in ERCSD was to destroy the public schools and the property values along with it.

The Tablet just got it all wrong and admitted that she went into the story believing that the school board was not at fault. She has zero credibility. She also giggles a lot during her interview, kinda weird reaction. The school board and Klein are 100% to blame. Two BOE members resigned because they were not given access to financial info and they were being harassed. There has not been an accurate Treasurers Report in years. Pretty sure that is illegal.

The board is sworn in to uphold the laws of NYS. Instead, they break those laws and bring suit against the state for many millions of dollars to change the special Ed laws. However, that is not their role or responsibility. If the Yeshiva parents want the NYS laws changed, they should be bringing the suit, not the district!

Sorry Jewish Week, but your story is got the facts all wrong....just like your friends at Tablet. This American Life puts forward the honest, truthful story. They have an impeccable reputation and people believe their story. No lie lasts forever....the truth was finally told to a nationwide audience and the guilty are exposed.

of course this is not a land grab. Rosenblatt is just a headline grabber. With ideas like this, not many people would listen to him and frankly, i'm sorry he got free press on ZOA.

There are critics, said Peterson, who “think we’re too friendly with Muslims.” Such critics, particularly evangelicals, he said, think “we should be condemning Islam as the religion of the devil, and because we’re not, that goes to prove we’re not real Christians.” Muslims are heirs to Abraham too.

The one omission you make is that during the time period 2006-2011, every single East Ramapo budget was voted down the first time and needed to be revised downward. There was absolutely no way a 25% tax hike would ever have passed the electorate. Since the district has a legal obligation to have a balanced budget and the electorate won't approve tax hikes, there is no other option other than cuts. Unless, you want to disenfranchise the voting public?
