Erica Brown writes: "Rabbi Barry Freundel, who was arrested for voyeurism this past week, is an articulate scholar with a reputation as a forceful leader who put down other rabbis and congregations and could be fierce about institutions and practices he did not like." She does not elaborate on the "put-downs" and the alleged fierceness, the quoted sentence seems out of place.

I am missing the point of the column. Why single out Rabbis over other professions. What sort of regulation? What kind of feedback loop from the congregation might have prevented this tragedy.

The rabbi has a contract and is overseen by a board
This particular scandal was, the author concedes, barely conceivable
A wide range of employees (eg custodian) could commit similar crimes

Her anger would be better directed at the RCA for protecting one of its own

'During deliberations ahead of the vote, a lawmaker for Cameron’s Conservative Party, Andrew Bridgen, was quoted as suggesting that because of “the power of the Jewish lobby in America, it falls to this country and to this House to be the good but critical friend that Israel needs.” The vote, he wrote, “just might lift that logjam on this very troubled area.'
With friends like Andrew Bridgen, who needs enemies? This vote is just more instance of British anti-semitism which we despise, but have become accustomed to. The Palestinians are NOT ready for statehood. They can't even manage their own territorial affairs without massive subsideies from outside. To argue that Palestine is a state is stupid. They are not. They are a wreck and a fraud. Israel is a state. It started as a dream of one man. It became a vision of world jewry. It was built with blood, sweat, and tears. It was fought for and died for. It is real and it is good. A vote against Israel is a vote for terrorism. Stop helping Hamas and ISIS because they will come to the UK.
