A little boy is dying, but some rabbis won't participate because they're superstitious or because their husbands don't like them with short hair? What year is this, 1950? Time to check your egos at the door, rabbis. Your hair will grow back. Sammy (and other kids like him) won't live to see hair as long and luxurious as yours.

As mentioned the U.S. is nominally secular, but not atheistic at all, and for political reasons the president can be seen in church. Also its a common expression- that there are no atheists in the fox holes... besides it being politically smart to have a strong foothold in the middle east not to mention the Jewish lobby and social influence

Commentator Belin is so interested in reconciliation between the branches of "Orthodoxy" that (based on the context of the article) he compares those wary of YCT (which includes the RCA, YU, and the majority of shuls in America) to "fundamentalist sects of Islams . . ." and describes them as "fear based." He claims that these people are "Haredi Orthodoxy" when in fact anyone involved in our community knows that they represent a board swath of the modren orthodox world.
He then proceeds to defame some unspecified number of adherents of every other major religion on the planet before noting that people aren't interested in "fear" or people who just define themselves by what they are against. That comment is either an excellent parody or something else entirely . . .
Belin, if that is your ideal of tolerance, I want no part of it at all.

The writer states that now's not the time to throw stones at others, yet begins his piece by declaring Modern Orthodoxy to be "irrelevant". His critique of Daniel Gordis' opinion is legitimate. His pot shots at Modern Orthodoxy - not so much
