    North Shore did nothing wrong, they are just trying to help those Schechter kids that want to be Jewish. I went to Schechter for elementary...or should I say public school. Thank G-d I was able to go to North Shore for high school and learn how to live derech hatorah umitzvot! I can only be thankful north shore recruited schechter kids or I wouldnt be religious!

    Solomon Schechter High School has every right to be angry about NSHS raiding its mailing list. It is unethical and the fact that other yeshivot are doing the same thing only underscores the paucity of moral values in the Orthodox community. If parents want to explore other schools they know how to do it. They don't need targeted mailings. Every Jewish school is hurting for students these days and to go after another institution's population is despicable. The Loshon Horah written in some of the other letters attacking Schechter is shocking.

    When Hillel cancels a moderate speaker on the mid east crisis, is it no wonder that many young Jews are turning their backs on Israel and the organized Jewish community. One doesn't have to be anti-Palestinian to be pro-Israel. To be Pro-Palestinian and Pro-Israel is to be pro peace.

    Let's see if we can figure out what is really going on here. It appears to me that NSHA has built a beautiful building (as seen in the article) and that they only have 400 students. We can assume that it was built to hold more than that and they are probably struggling now with their budgets. IF they were at capacity, would they really be recruiting Schechter kids that are known conservative families into an orthodox school? I doubt it. They have shown themselves to be about the mighty dollar while a school with a longer and stronger track record has survived and is thriving. Go Schechter! Stand your ground!

    The article speaks for itself. If the only explanation that North Shore can come up with this as an accepted Halachic practice is that everybody is doing it......
    Regardless, where do you self righteous fools get off criticizing another Jewish institution because they happen to promote a different type of education, and another form of Judaic learning. It is because of close minded, judgmental, hypocrites like you that people turn away from their Jewish roots. You are an embarassment to ALL JEWS!

    Ivan Kaufman’s billions have shrunk to millions and Dr. Vitow is under enormous pressure to justify his $400,000 + compensation package. (This is public information on Guide star). He will stop at nothing to fill a few extra seats in his new building, including sacrificing core Jewish beliefs and ideals. This is a Chilul Hashem in the truest sense. As for his answer that about geese and ganders, I wonder if he accepts that response from students that he catches smoking pot in his hallways.
    I was thinking about NSHS but after reading this NO MORE!

    The voices heard in the comments, expose us, the Jews of Long Island as a divided people. To suggest that the Schechter School offers anything short of the best Jewish education and that its graduates are not the leaders they are on college campuses across the country is shameful.
    How did this become an Orthodox vs. Conservative issue?
    My expectation of any Jewish school, is to make Jewish education possible to any child who seeks it, to bring more young people into the fold and to encourage participation in the world of Torah and Mitzvot.
    Shifting a family that has already made the commitment to Jewish education from one school to another does not achieve that goal.

    There are such better ways to produce energy in Israel. There are more than 300 days of sunlight and the sun is high in the sky! there is lots of winds. there are places with altitude difference which can use excessive electricity during the night and convert it to required electricity during peak hours
    No need to ruin that beautiful and rare natural resort.

    Whatever the stated goal, friends of Israel should support Mr. Obama's insistence on keeping negotiations open. So far, all parties have invested courage and political capital in their commitment to a comprehensive peace. In spite of deadlock, none have yet walked away from the table.

    Crucially, this time the talks at last include a credible partner on the Palestinian side. Mahmoud Abbas has established the stature to negotiate on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, and to deliver on terms agreed. Every gain his government makes further isolates the extremists in Gaza.

    I am shocked that everyone takes Rabbi Greenberg's words at face value. He is a propagandist who advocates people explore being homosexual before giving up on the possibility. See his interviews in Trembling Before God, and in Trembling Before God II (or the documentary about the impact the film had on the world).
    There are bad apples everywhere. I find it very disturbing that a real minority of the population (single digit percentage) has such a voice - and that people kowtow to it and accept homosexuality as normal.
    I feel for the human beings and certainly do not advocate any suicides. And what you do in private is your business, and please please please leave me out of it.
    If heterosexuals screamed from every mountaintop that they were heterosexuals we would all tell them to shut up and keep it to themselves. No one cares and it's your private life and your own business.
    I think it's time to tell the gays the same thing. Shut up. Keep it to yourself. If you wouldn't make such a big deal about it, nobody else would.
    [I have two gay neighbors who live three houses away from me. They seem like nice guys - they're always walking their dogs together. We don't talk to each other about sexuality, because honestly, it doesn't matter.]

    One topic Beck claims to have some knowledge of is American History and it’s clear that he’s read many history books. Since Beck always urges his viewers/listeners to do their own research and not take his word for anything, I actually took him up on this and purchased a Teaching Company university level audio book course on American History.
    (I am Russian by birth and have lived the past 34 years in Canada).

    The links below are the profiles of the three professors who taught the course, each specialized in a particular period. For instance, Gary W. Gallagher is a Civil War expert.

    There are 84 lectures starting with the early Spanish, Dutch & French explorers right up until the Clinton administration and the end of the 2nd millennium.

    I recommend this to anyone who is truly interest in learning the facts and appreciates a rigorous scholarly interpretation of events in America’s past.

    The fact that the best expert Beck can find to support his views is David Barton should be a red flag to anyone who takes this guy seriously or anyone who has a genuine interest in American History.

    One thing that strikes me is how many conservatives mix up the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. And when they do quote the Declaration they completely omit the first paragraph and pick up with “We hold these truths to be self evident….” Below is first paragraph copied directly from the National Archives web page.

    When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

    How can you read this and still believe that the rights and freedoms of Americans come from a Christian God as Beck & Barton always claim. And that the first amendment is to protect religious institutions from government.

    So I am convinced that Beck has no credibility on the one subject he claims to have some expertise. Therefore, why should anyone take him seriously on any subject particularly one as subjective as the politics of the day.

    As an aside Rush Limbaugh in his CPAC speech last year’s quotes the second paragraph of the Declaration as the Preamble to the Constitution.

    It's clear that these "philanthropists" are interested in making money, which is fair enough from their perspective. But those of us here in Israel should be aware of this and not fool ourselves that our wellbeing comes into the picture.

    The costs to us will be a lot higher than anything we're going to gain. It's more than the destruction of a beautiful piece of landscape: the Adullam valley is close to the city of Bet Shemesh, where thousands of people will be exposed to gas emissions, not to mention the risks to the water table, which will affect many more.

    If these "major philanthropists" want to invest in Israel, why not invest in our state-of-the-art clean technology, hybrid cars, etc. instead of creating yet more fossil fuels.

    Oh yeah, I forgot, it's about the money...

    I don't think I have ever read anything more cynically manipulative than Howard Jonas's comparing Col. Mickey Marcus who died in Israel’s service with Fred Carl who died of a heart attack and Harold Vinegar and his wife making aliya.
    However good everyone's intentions may be, please don't forget this is about making money for an international company who will be selling the oil to Israel at whatever the current going rate will be, and this method is only economically viable because of the high price of oil.
    One of the reasons IDT has brought its experiment to Israel is that Colorado revised its oil and gas rules in April 2009 to provide greater protection for the local environment, so making IDT's experiment less viable there.

    The American billionnaire sees "Saudi-level potential." Do we want to be Saudi Arabia, in which the average resident is POORER than the average Israeli (though back in the 1980's they were 4 times as rich)?

    Maybe Vinegar and Scott Nguyen are Jewish; Fred Carl was not. But they are not coming here to "help" Israel. They are coming to make big bucks. Nothing wrong with that, but building refineries in our Biblical parks and heating the undersoil to 650F, in order to send money to the US, is not "Zionism."

    I belong to Gates of Prayer, and can attest that this has been a most beautiful and spiritually fulfilling phenomenon. In fact, along just one avenue is our Conservative congregation, a Jewish Community Center, Gates of Prayer, Beth Israel, and a Chabad Center. It couldn't be better! Our Jewish community is very close, and we are very proud!

    during the fall, when all the schools have open houses, our voice mail and snail mail box were filled with open house offers from all the high schools, those with k-12 and those with just 9-12 - how did these other schools have our information? some offered our kids days they could sit in on classes at the other school, some offered breakfast and lunch... its called competition and thank g-d we are a large and great jewish community and have so many wonderful yeshivot to choose from if all the other yeshivot can send mail about open houses north shore can too remember, jealousy and politics will get us nowhere and that is exactly what this is all about i

    Schechter is not one to be judging other people's commitment to Jewish values. All one has to do is walk into that school. If I didn't know better I'd think it is a public school.
