James Holmes spent a summer working as a counselor for Camp Max Straus in Glendale, Calif., which is run by Jewish Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times reported on Saturday.

Jewish Relief Funds Assisting Colorado Fire Victims

As residents of Colorado Springs return to their homes following widespread wild fires, U.S. Jewish communities are raising money for relief funds.

The Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado, in conjunction with local synagogues, community organizations and national partners, has launched the Colorado Fire Relief Fund to help victims, firefighters, first responders and others affected by the fires.

Jews And Native American Tribe Share Genetic Link, Say Israeli Doctors

(JTA) – Israeli geneticists have linked a Native American population in Colorado to Jews expelled from Spain during the Inquisition.

Geneticists at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv discovered the genetic mutation marker BRCA1 in a group of Mexican Indians who had emigrated from Mexico to the United States over the past 200 years and settled in Colorado, Haaretz reported Wednesday.

BRCA1 is found in Jews of Ashkenazi origin and leads to a higher incidence of breast and ovarian cancer.

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Andrew Romanoff and Michael Bennet, each vying for the Democratic nomination for Colorado's junior spot in the U.S. Senate, seem to be running identical campaigns with identical biographies: Jewish scions of East Coast public service families, Yale educated, drawn to the Centennial State as ambitious young politicos.

They say they stand for the same thing: Government reformers running in an anti-incumbent year pledging to bash the big bucks bad guys.
