On the day last month that Apple released its newest iPhone, tweets using the hashtag #iPhone5 – the device people were expecting rather than the 4S – were coming so fast and furious that you could barely read one tweet before it was pushed down the Twitter or TweetDeck screen by the next entries.

When Gilad Shalit, a short while later, was released from Hamas captivity, there was also a steady stream of tweets, though far fewer per hour. There's no question that this simple form of communication has become a way to see what's hot and what's not.

Charlie Sheen Hires Israeli Bodyguards

(JTA) -- Actor Charlie Sheen has hired Israeli military veterans as round-the-clock security guards.

The guards were hired over the weekend after a crazed fan broke into his home, surprising Sheen and his entourage as they relaxed by the pool, according to reports.

David Pack of Kansas City, Kan., was arrested for trespassing on March 10 at night, shortly after police completed a raid on Sheen's home.

Embattled actor Charlie Sheen is demanding an apology from the Anti-Defamation League for saying that his rant against the executive producer of his hit TV sitcom was "borderline anti-Semitism."

And in an interview on Access Hollywood Friday morning, Sheen revealed that his mother is Jewish, "which makes me Jewish and my children Jewish ... and I'm proud."

(JTA) -- Actor Charlie Sheen's rant against the executive producer of his hit TV sitcom is "borderline anti-Semitism," the Anti Defamation League's Abraham Foxman said.

Sheen, in a radio interview Feb. 24 and in a letter posted on the TMZ website, called the "Two and a Half Men" executive producer Chuck Lorre a "contaminated little maggot," said he was a "clown" and "stupid," and referred to him several times as Chaim Levine.

Lorre's given name is Charles Michael Levine.
