There were plenty of words last Sunday morning on East 92nd Street, but not the sort The Jewish Museum had hoped for when it planned a provocative exhibition of contemporary art meant to rekindle dialogue about Holocaust memory.

About 100 yeshiva students, politicians, Holocaust survivors and other community members, most of them from Brooklyn, directed chants of “Shame on You” and “Don’t go in” toward anyone who approached the museum’s front doors at the 10 a.m. opening of “Mirroring Evil: Nazi Imagery/Recent Art.”

 One of the Russian-speaking community’s top priorities in the just-ended legislative session in Albany was passage of a bill that would have mandated the New York City Board of Elections to translate into Russian all voting materials used at polling stations across the city.After all, those materials are already being translated into Spanish, Chinese and Korean, and the State Assembly had overwhelmingly passed a version of the bill in June.So when the State Senate scotched it at the 11th hour, speculation began to fly about who was behind it.

Pressure Rising On Russia To Pay Pensions

 For the first time, a high-level United States government delegation will travel to Moscow to press Russian officials to pay pensions to refugees and immigrants from Russia, and its predecessor, the Soviet Union, now living in the U.S., The Jewish Week has learned. News of the upcoming negotiations — which will be held in the Russian capital next week between a delegation from the U.S.
