Rabin & Arafat Agreed -- Their Oslo Accords Justify Israel Smacking Flotilla

While there's been no shortage of Jews who insist that Israel was wrong to stop and board the terrorist flotilla. there's been a curious disconnect. Most of the Jews who got the most sea-sick by Israel's self-defense are the same Jews who constantly want Israel pressured to get more involved in the peace process.

But what do the existing agreements of the peace process have to say about Israel's rights to control the waters off the Gaza coast?

New J Street poll: American Jews support Obama Mideast moves

There's a new poll of American Jewish public opinion by J Street, and I'm just going to take a wild guess and say Jewish Republicans and mainstream pro-Israel groups are going to dismiss the whole thing as propaganda because it's done by...well, J Street, the pro-peace process lobby and political action group that everybody else loves to hate (see the J Street results here).

‘The Rockets Get Into Your Body’

Sderot, Israel — The rocket alert was drowned out by the cacophony from the children’s Tu b’Shevat party. By the time the first kids dashed to the bomb shelter at the Parent and Child Community Center here, it was too late.

The Kassam rocket thundered overhead, accompanied by a subtle tremble.

"You heard that boom," asked Dalia Yosef, the director of the Sderot Resilience Center, which focuses on easing the psychological toll of the rockets. "It’s not that far away."

Just one day after his landslide victory, aides to Israel’s newly elected prime minister put one of American Jewry’s key pro-Israel groups on notice. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, organized Jewry’s pro-Israel Washington lobby, “has been less than wise in several of their endeavors over the last few years,” Alon Pinkus, Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak’s spokesman, said Tuesday.

Michael Oren and J Street: Narrowing the Pro-Israel Tent

I haven't spoken to Michael Oren, Israel's current ambassador in Washington, more than a handful of times, but he's always struck me as smart and sophisticated. So I can't help but wonder why he continues to pick needless fights with J Street, the pro-peace process lobby and political action committee.

Hamas Boosting Bibi?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Does the resumption this week of rocket fire from Gaza into Israel, in violation of the fragile and unofficial truce between Hamas and Jerusalem, signal a Hamas endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu for Israeli prime minister?

That’s the likely effect of renewed attacks on Israel on the eve of next Tuesday’s national elections. The rockets underscore that despite the beating Hamas took last month, the terror group still rules Gaza and can still make life miserable for Israelis, especially those living in the south.

Who’s Fasting Today and Why?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

After feasting for two days on festive Rosh Hashanah meals, there no doubt are many of us who have sworn off food today. But there are others who are doing thesame for religious rather than dietary reasons.

That’s because the day after Rosh Hashanah on the Jewish calendar is Tzom Gedaliah, the Fast of Gedaliah, a little-known minor fast (meaning it is “only” from dawn to dark, unlike Yom Kippur and Tisha B’Av, which start the night before).
