JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The family of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and thousands of supporters began a protest march to mark the four years of his captivity.
Under the slogan "Gilad is still alive," at least 2,000 supporters on Sunday joined Shalit's family on a march from northern Israel to Jerusalem, a 120-mile walk that is expected to take about 12 days. The march, which left from the family's home in Mitzpe Hila near the Lebanese border, will make stops in sites significant to the family.
No humanitarian aid to Shalit, and no story either.
Even before the facts were clear about the battle between Israeli commandos and the pro-Hamas flotilla, we were told by The New York Times website, and dozens of other online media, that Israel was being “condemned.” Indeed it was.
Like the schoolyard bully that asks the Jewish kid for his lunch money -- and gets it, Hamas gets tons --TONS -- of Israeli goodsevery week, even as Israel is accused of a Gaza blockade, or a Gaza boycott. Hamas is not only in a state of war with Israel, it is holding Gilad Shalit in a one-man Auschwitz.
(JTA) — A senior Hamas leader has condemned the cartoon video released by the terrorist organization’s armed wing showing Gilad Shalit returning in a coffin.
Mahmoud al-Zahar, a co-founder of Hamas on Monday condemned the video showing the captive Israeli soldier’s father wandering deserted streets looking at billboard after billboard of Israeli leaders promising to work for his son’s release.
Hila, Israel — Amid a flurry of reports about possible progress in prisoner-swap talks to secure the release of kidnapped Israeli Cpl. Gilad Shalit, his father Noam says he won’t get his hopes up despite signs of encouragement.
“It has only just started to move. It hasn’t reached an agreement. It has a much longer road to go,” he told The Jewish Week in an interview at the Shalit family home in this northern Israel hamlet.

I think Jimmy Carter is every bit the anti-Zionist, perhaps even the anti-Semite, that many Jews think he is.
And yet, as a father, I liked the idea of Carter talking to Hamas.
