Why are Jews so out of sync with the world? Why can't we see all that's beautiful about Obama the way Libya's Gaddafi can? Did you notice the way he keeps bringing up Obama's Muslim father? I guess he didn't he read all those editorials and columns in Jewish newspapers, back in 2008, saying no one should ever bring up Obama's connections to Islam. But really, what did all those Jews really know about Obama and Islam?
I can't quite get my mind around the fierce reaction to an allegedly anti-Semitic joke told by Gen. Jim Jones, the Obama administration national security adviser, during a recent appearance before the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a pro-Israel think tank.
Those reactions range from ADL national director Abe Foxman's relatively sedate label of “inappropiate” to emails I've received (the usual chain emails, suggesting Obama-inspired pogroms are just around the corner) calling his joke “outrageous” and “anti-Semitic.”
The Obama administration is confident it will retain strong Jewish support even as it ratchets up the pressure on Israel and offers clues that, unlike its predecessors, it means what it says about the thorny issue of Jewish settlements on the West Bank.
While the pro-Israel establishment is already reacting angrily to the administration’s shifted red lines on settlements, many analysts say President Barack Obama’s ability to soften tough positions with pro-Israel reassurances will prevent a broad Jewish backlash.
