Mel Gibson's mouth has turned into a lethal weapon. So suggests Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, following a series of published and oral comments made by the award-winning Hollywood actor and director concerning his controversial upcoming movie about the death of Jesus of Nazareth. "Recent statements by Mel Gibson paint the portrait of an anti-Semite," Foxman told The Jewish Week Tuesday.

A national grassroots campaign by Presbyterians to stop the Presbyterian Church USA from funding missionizing efforts against Jews is gaining steam following a Jewish Week report revealing the secret initiative embedded in the struggling mainline Protestant denomination. The issue threatens to split the Presbyterian Church between conservative and liberal factions, which already are locked in a fierce struggle over gay ordination, leading church officials told The Jewish Week.
