Bradley's Wife Condemns Austria

Ernestine Schlant Bradley, a Holocaust author and wife of presidential candidate Bill Bradley, told a group of Flatbush yeshiva students that she and her husband agree that the United States must keep the pressure on Austria to reverse the decision to include the rightist Freedom Party in its new coalition government. "It's a very disturbing and crippling event," the German-born professor of German literature at Montclair College in New Jersey told about 350 students Monday at the Yeshivah of Flatbush-Joel Braverman High School.

Most young boys learning to play basketball at the Jewish Community House in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, in the early 1970s were trying to shoot jump shots like former New York Knick superstar Willis Reed. Or “shake and bake” like Earl (The Pearl) Monroe. Or play defense like Walt “Clyde” Frazier. “Bradley from the corner. Yes!” That was the oft-heard exclamation from a happy 12-year-old who just launched a successful shot from the corner of the gym like his hero, “Dollar” Bill Bradley.

Bill Bradley may have gained a step on rival Al Gore in the race for cash for the Democratic presidential nomination, but the former New Jersey senator and New York Knick apparently will have to rally to catch the vice president in Jewish campaign contributions. Bradley raised an estimated $6.7 million from July to September, according to the latest figures released by the Federal Election Commission, nipping Gore’s total of $6.5 million for the period.
