Israel's Interior Ministry is revamping its procedures for allowing Christian clerics, religious students and volunteers to enter the country in response to growing complaints by Christian groups, The Jewish Week has learned. The groups said they have had serious trouble in recent months obtaining entry visas and renewals for their flock.

Suit Presses Falash Mura Solution

Israel's new Interior minister for five months has declined to carry out a cabinet decision that would speed up the emigration of the Falash Mura from Ethiopia, their advocates claim. This week Avraham Poraz, who succeeded Eli Yishai in March as head of the ministry, must tell the Supreme Court why. An Israeli law firm last month brought suit in the Supreme Court against Poraz compelling him to enforce the cabinet resolution.

New Israeli Offensive Questioned

The government of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon came under fire at home this week for allegedly disregarding Palestinian civilians in its zeal to combat terrorists, and from the United Nations, which called upon Israel to remove its security barrier that Arabs call a land grab. The controversy within Israel arose after the Israeli military launched one of the largest series of air strikes against terrorists in the Gaza Strip on Monday. Five air strikes were conducted against suspected Palestinian terrorists and a weapons factory in Gaza City.
