Walk around Temple Micah when religious school is in session, and you will see children praying, having discussions and working on art projects.

What you won’t find are alef-bet drill sessions, or language instruction of any kind.

While Hebrew is on the curriculum at this 485-family Reform congregation in Washington, D.C., students now do all their Hebrew learning from home, through private tutoring sessions conducted via the Internet videoconferencing service Skype.

Amazon.com and Anti-Semitism

Special to the Jewish Week

I was greeted on a recent morning with an email from Amazon.com recommending three books, two of which are notorious anti-Semitic tracts: "The International Jew: The World's Most Foremost Problem" by Henry Ford and "The Protocols of the Meetings of the Learned Elders of Zion." Why? Because Amazon accurately reminds me that I had purchased the 25th anniversary paperback edition of "The Transfer Agreement: The Dramatic Story of the Pact Between the Third Reich and Jewish Palestine" by Edwin Black.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who has spent time learning in Lubavitch yeshivot and leading an outreach center at Oxford University, is the author of  “The Kosher Sutra: 8 Sacred Secrets for Reigniting Desire and Restoring Passion for Life” (HarperOne), his third book on physical intimacy. His earlier books on the subject, “Kosher Sex: A Recipe for Passion and Intimacy” and “Kosher Adultery: Seduce and Sin With Your Spouse” became bestsellers.
