JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Two more ships that are part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla are still planning to sail for the Gaza coast.

Gaza flotilla attack: rage is no substitute for careful strategic planning

Israeli leaders, facing the predictable criticism in response to the predictable eruption of violence on the high seas when their forces confronted the Gaza flotilla, are busy explaining why they were justified in taking the action they took.

What they don't want to address, for obvious reasons: was it  smart?

The Flotilla & How Hamas Is Worse Than Hitler

For all that we hear about the flotilla being a humanitarian mission, they refused the request of Gilad Shalit's father to even ask to see Gilad, who has not been visited by the Red Cross or any other humanitarian group in three years. Some people don't like it when the Palestinians are compared to the Nazis. In fact, in this respect they are worse than the Nazis.

U.S. Wants ‘Full and Credible’ Israeli Inquiry Into Flotilla Clash

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The Obama administration wants Israel to conduct a "full and credible" investigation into a clash that left nine people dead when Israel commandoes boarded a flotilla shipping aid to the Gaza Strip.

Gaza Flotilla Deaths Spur Concerns, Condemnation

05/31/2010

(JTA) -- The Vatican expressed "pain" and "great concern" at the deaths of activists on a convoy bringing aid to Gaza, while French leaders criticized the Israeli Navy's use of force in turning back the flotilla.

Chief Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Monday that the raid by Israeli Navy commandos, in which dozens of protesters were killed or injured, was "a very painful thing, in particular for the useless loss of human lives."

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- With nations around the world condemning Israel for the deaths of nine people aboard a Gaza-bound ship, israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a planned visit to the White House.

Netanyahu was scheduled to meet Tuesday with President Obama following a weekend visit to Canada, which included a working meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The visit would have been Netanyahu's first meeting with Obama since a late March meeting at the White House in which the administration was accused of snubbing the Israeli leader.

Tweeting the Flotilla Attack

Peter Beinart's essay "The Failure of the American Jewish Establishment" in The New York Review of Books argues that most of the mainstream American Jewish organizations have abandoned liberalism on the issues of the Middle East and are responsible for a generation of young Jews who hold no connection to Israel.

Protesters on ship bound for Gaza killed in rioting

05/31/2010

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- At least 15 activists onboard a flotilla of ships bound for Gaza were killed during rioting after Israeli Naval forces boarded the ships to redirect them to an Israeli port.

Israel's Navy intercepted six of the ships early Monday morning as they attempted to break the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Israel had radioed to the ships numerous times, requesting that they head to the port in Ashdod, where they could unload their aid material to be transferred to Gaza after security inspections, the Israel Defense Forces Spokesman said in a statement.

Spray-paint stencil artist Sarah Brega recently found inner peace at the unlikeliest of places — a series of Sderot bomb shelters she had decided to spruce up.

“It was really peaceful in Sderot — I picked two or three bomb shelters to decorate,” Brega said. “It was like my dream, to have this empty canvas and do whatever I want with it.”

Sarah Brega’s spray-paint and stencil piece of Herzl, Ben-Gurion and Jabotinsky, hangs in the Eden Gallery in Tel Aviv.

Hamas Asks Gilad Shalit For His Lunch Money -- And Gets It

Like the schoolyard bully that asks the Jewish kid for his lunch money -- and gets it, Hamas gets tons --TONS -- of Israeli goods every week, even as Israel is accused of a Gaza blockade, or a Gaza boycott. Hamas is not only in a state of war with Israel, it is holding Gilad Shalit in a one-man Auschwitz.
