Monday, January 4th, 2010 Any day school, shul or organization that can get a representative from the Ma’aleh School of Television, Film & The Arts, an Israeli film school (that just happens to be Orthodox) to show representative features or a selection of 30-minute shorts will be in for a terrific evening. I’ve seen at least a half-dozen of their student-made films and each was emotionally and intellectually stimulating, better than the last half-dozen movies I’ve seen in my local multiplex. (Except for “Crazy Heat,” or maybe the Ma’aleh films were even better than “Crazy Heart.”) Haaretz recently did an article on Ma’aleh that you can read right here. And you can see several different clips and videos from “Crazy Heart” here.
