Giffords Shooting: Trigger-Happy Left Sees Incitement Everywhere But The Mirror
01/09/2011 - 23:40

If a black man or an illegal alien shot Congresswoman Giffords in the head, would leftists blame blacks or Hispanics?

No, the left would blame poverty.

If a Moslem shot Giffords in the head, would the left blame militant Islam?

No, leftists would build a new mosque in Tuscon, reaching out to moderates, refusing to get into the gutter with extremists and hysterics, insisting that we use this tragedy to find ways to heal.

But Giffords was not shot by a Moslem but by a white paranoid schizophrenic so the left, the great healers, have to blame somebody, everybody, millions of people. Round up the usual suspects. How about Sarah Palin and the millions of people who voted for her or the Tea Party?

Great idea.

The headline over Michael Daly's column in The Daily News: "Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' blood is on Sarah Palin's hands after putting cross hair over district."

If someone would now shoot Sarah Palin, God forbid, would Michael Daly be guilty of incitement? Would the Upper West Side or the Workmen's Circle or J Streeters mourn, would they see how their obsessive, excessively angry, exceedingly ugly talk about Palin, year after year, had anything to do with it?

Is it only Sarah Palin? Does the left ever incite an assassin?

Can we blame the left for the assassination of John F. Kennedy? Why not? Lee Harvey Oswald was a "progressive," openly Communist, defected to the Soviet Union, and he joined the Fair Play For Cuba group. He was incited by years of anti-American rhetoric, quite a bit of it by American leftist Jews, as well as hearing Khruschev say to America, "We will bury you." Is that enough incitement? Oswald, the progressive, then shoots Kennedy in the head. We bury Kennedy.

Can we blame the left for the assassination of Robert Kennedy? Why not? His killer, Sirhan Sirhan, was a "progressive," a Palestinian activist, his motive was to kill Kennedy, a supporter of Israel, on the first anniversary of the Six Day War. Sirhan was inspired by a lifetime of anti-Israel incitement, often hearing "Death to Israel," let alone their supporters. When the progressives keep inciting about the all-controlling Jewish lobby's strangehold on Congress, can we blame those anti-Jewish lobby progressives when the pro-Israel Senator Kennedy is shot?

Even better, Sirhan Sirhan was against the settlements. How much more progressive can you get? Except there were no settlements in 1968, he believed that Tel Aviv and Haifa were settlements. How progressive can you get?

Blaming assassinations on incitement can cut both ways, if one is so inclined.

But can we blame right-wing incitement for the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin? No.

The left has made a cult of anti-Rabin incitement but according to Israel's then-Attorney General Menachem Mazuz,  there is "no proof" No proof that incitement had anything to do with Rabin's asassination.

"We must be careful about drawing connections between this, or any other event, and incitement," said the attorney general. "People speak about (Rabin's) murder as if it was a clear case of incitement, but no one has ever proved that incitement led to the murder."

Of course, the left craves a Reichstag fire to justify repressive measures against conservative politicians. If there is no proof that incitement killed Rabin, well, we'll just say incitement killed Rabin anyway. We'll call it a civility campaign, said Napoleon and Snowball.

When Obama speaks of Ohio as an election year "battleground state" would he then be guilty of incitement if an Obama-supporting gang in Cleveland went to "battle" in the inner city against anyone wearing a "Vote Republican" button? Palin "targeted" candidates such as Gifford? Let's be perfectly literal to the point of being idiots.

Did the left try to incite the assassination of Pres. George Bush? Nobel Peace Prize winner Betty Williams said publically that "Right now, I could kill George Bush." Oh, she said, she was non-violent but "I would love to be able to do that." She "chuckled and some members of the audience laughed."

Liberals laughing about murdering Bush? Is that incitement?

Or how about this, is it incitement when a columnist writes in The Guaridan in 2004, "The world will endure four more years of idiocy, arrogance and unwarranted bloodshed, with no benevolent deity to watch over and save us. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. - where are you now that we need you?" Imagine, this progressive even thinks that a benevolent God would bless an incitement to murder.

If Israel were to someday, God forbid, cease to exist -- murdered -- can we look back and blame progressives for suggesting, over and over again, that Israel is an oppressive, apartheid, non-Democratic state, an outlaw state that doesn't deserve American support, even if that means Israel must die? Is their constant rhetoric against the ADL, AIPAC, and the Conference of Presidents incitement? If a settler is murdered, can we blame the anti-settler rhetoric of the progressives?

Oh wait. Settlers have been murdered, and by Palestinians incited by leftist rhetoric. What a coincidence.

There is one group of assassins that is never linked to incitement.

Islamic killers always act alone. We can't blame Islam or Islamic incitement for the World Trade Center, or for the murders of Daniel Pearl, or Hillel Lieberman, or Alisa Flatow or the more than 7,000 people killed and wounded by Islamic assassins just in the last decade. No, we can't blame Islam for any of that.

There were whole articles, hundreds of words long, on the attempted bombing of two Riverdale shuls that didn't even mention that the would-be bombers were Moslem, or were inspired by anti-Zionist, anti-Semitic incitement. There were numerous journalists and politicians who refused to see a link between the Fort Hood shooter, and the Times Square bomber, and the killer who burst into the offices of the Seattle Jewish Federation and Islamic incitement.

No, all those killers acted alone. They just happened to be Islamic. A coincidence.

Mayor Bloomberg at first suggested that the Times Square bomber might be a member of the Tea Party.

But the Times Square bomber was a Moslem. How inconvenient.

Jewish leftists only indict an entire group because of the criminal behavior of a few if that group is any combination of Christian, conservative, Orthodox, or white.

Giffords was shot by a mentally ill white guy so the left is raising money for lynching rope big enough for Palin and all Republicans.

If Giffords was shot by an Arab? The left would be raising money for a mosque, for the "moderates," of course. After thousands are murdered by "isolated" Muslims, the left still seeks and promoted the idea of  "moderates" within Islam. But they can't see the moderates in the Tea Party, who have killed no one, or any decency whatsoever in Sarah Palin.

When do we recognize that the relentless, excessive anger against Sarah Palin has crossed the line into "hate speech" and incitement?

Time for President Obama to purposefully add Ms. Palin in his comments of choice - and apologize for the crazy left targetting her - for the sky being blue, for the economy being our reality, for this senseless action of one apolitical man down in Arizona, too. You want to be a truth teller, Mr. President - and a healer - start with clearing up the record ON THE RECORD about abusing Ms. Palin in all manner and means - your press secretary, your chief of staff, yourself - and your party - for advantage and political gain. And not because YOU all were ever speaking the truth - or honoring any other person's right to free speak or freely seek high elected office. And the separated out and isolated criminal incident in Arizona is a tragedy that is the responsibility of one singular mentally ill man - not anyone else - in the whole wide world. Ultimately. Quit abusing and using the victims in this criminal case, most especially. QUIT ALL OF IT!
As the facts have come to light,we have learned that this young man is delusional...not political, just delusional. It's unfortunate the pundits jumped on the blame game, instead of focusing on the victims. Jared became obsessed with the Congresswoman years before the tea party. He ddn't like the way she answered his inane question... can you say paranoid schizo? No political speech influenced this guy... he had his video games and paranoia to keep him busy. For fun I clicked on the mirror sites for his crazy Youtube Rants... nothing political at all... just sad how sick this young man is.
Even Mr. Mark cannot excuse Ms. Palin for her latest snafu. Disagree, but do so civilly. Watch what you say, and how you say it, in words and images. Oh, and when you say it. Was it really only Saturday that the tragedy happened in Arizona? Did Ms. Palin not get the memo?
'Trigger-Happy Left Sees Incitement Everywhere But The Mirror' Thank you Mr. Mark for your intelligent analysis. It is simply shameful of the Left to exploit this tragedy in order to smear Palin, the Tea Party, and conservatives in general. If the Left is so passionate about civility in our national debate, why are they demonizing people with whom they disagree?

James Besser's latest blog post wonderfully rebuts this piece without stooping to Mr. Mark's vitriolic hyberbole.
Dear Mr. Mark: Glad to see that this tragedy hasn't caused you to lose any of your venom, vitriol or anger.
Sorry...while you are correct in much of your analyses, I nonetheless agree with Daly. The "tough" talking Palin and other members of the new-guard Republicans, as well as the Tea Partiers, have turned the rhetoric up to heights never seen before. Are there members of the Democratic party that have engaged in similar rhetoric? Sure, but not in my opinion to the same degree. This Arizona lunatic probably didn't have a political party to proclaim as his own, because a sick mind makes its own rules and causes.
