NY's First Same-Sex, Interfaith, Feng-Shui Certified Wedding!

Last summer we had Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky.

This summer’s high-profile interfaith under-the-chupah wedding will be New York’s First Legal Same-Sex Wedding, set to take place at the strike of midnight on July 24, when the new law goes into effect.

The couple — Dee Smith (who [surprise!] works in public relations) and Kate (no one seems to be releasing her last name or personal details at this point) — even used InterfaithFamily.com’s clergy referral service to find a rabbi: Rabbi Lev Baesh, the director of IFF’s resource center for Jewish clergy.
Rabbi Baesh, who was ordained through the Reform movement and is himself gay, frequently officiates at interfaith weddings.

The Dee-Kate nuptials seem to be open to the public (you can RSVP on Facebook) and take place at The Viana Hotel, which touts itself as Long Island’s “first Feng Shui- and LEED-certified hotel.” In case you are interested, Dee is the Jewish one, and Rabbi Baesh is the only officiant (there's no clergy of another religion officiating).

I hope no one from Westboro Baptist Church shows up.

And, speaking of interfaith weddings, does anyone know of a liberal rabbi who not only officiates at them, but who also is fluent in Hebrew, English and Spanish? (Not for me — duh, I’m already married and have only a year of Spanish under my belt — but for my friend Hila, who recently got engaged to longtime boyfriend José.)

And let’s all stay tuned for word of new mom Natalie Portman’s wedding to the believed-to-be-gentile French ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied. Poor little Alef (Aleph?), conceived out-of-inter-wedlock, deserves to be made legal. I suppose they’ll be seeking a rabbi fluent in Hebrew, English and French.
