Remember my post back in December about what NOT to do when you discover an intermarried Jewish family member has a Christmas tree in their house? 

Now I’d like to share what NOT to say when you encounter a mom who tells you she is not Jewish but has agreed to raise her kids as Jews:

I’m trying to make sense of a strange legal battle — one getting more mainstream media attention than Jewish media attention — concerning a Jewish cemetery in Colchester, Conn.

At Ahavath Achim, a Jewish board member (ironically named Maria) is suing to have the body of Juliet Steer, a black Christian woman exhumed, because Steer is not Jewish and has no ties to any Jews buried there. 

Last year I jokingly titled a blog post “Christmas in Anatevka,” since my daughters and I had spent the big day watching “Fiddler on the Roof.”
This year, I felt like we really did spend Christmas morning in Anatevka. That’s because we were on the main drag (aptly called Main Street) of Queens’ very Jewish Kew Gardens Hills neighborhood.

Yikes, Chanukah has barely begun and this Christmas-Chanukah thing is starting to feel like the Chelsea (another “ch” word*) Clinton wedding: enough already!
