67: Merchant vessels flying the flag of neutral States may not be attacked unless they:
(a) are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture;
For all that we hear about the flotilla being a humanitarian mission, they refused the request of Gilad Shalit's father to even ask to see Gilad, who has not been visited by the Red Cross or any other humanitarian group in three years. Some people don't like it when the Palestinians are compared to the Nazis. In fact, in this respect they are worse than the Nazis.
Summer's here and the city child's heart turns to Coney Island. This is a Jewish paper so here's the Jewish angle. Jennifer Miller may not be the only bearded lady but she's the only Jewish women in the Coney Island Freak Show Hall of Fame. You don't want to know how many of the men in this Hall are Jewish.
I met Jennifer a while back, while doing a story on Coney Island, and I enjoyed her intelligence and company.
I'm fine with any critique of the Jewish establishment from serious Jews and serious journalists, people who deeply love Israel and disagree with its policies. Not acceptable, though, are the assimilationists and anti-Israel -- yes, let's call them that -- leftists who piggy-back on the legitimate Jewish left as a beard to cover their loathing of all things Jewish and Israeli. They are the ones who say they can't attend even the harmless. non-political Salute to Israel Parade or show the flag or even allow Ambassador Oren to speak, because of the mean ol' Israeli government.
Let's start off with a song by Hank Williams that pretty much sums up Israel's response to American Jews: "Why can't you be the way you used to be? How come you find so many faults with me? Somebody's changed so let me give you a clue, why don't you love me like you used to do?"
One leftist Jewish blogger at a Jewish newspaper wrote, "I will be honest with you: I myself knew little about the specfics of Jerusalem's modern history until this spat," between the U.S. and Israel earlier in the spring, but he'll tell you his opinion anyway. Such is the state of modern Jewish journalism. Knowledge is nothing. Opinion is everything. Step right up, you don't need to know anything to play.
The old Catskills town, once the capital of the mountains, has changed and is changing still. No village or hamlet in the mountains has changed more, has seen its crime rate spiral higher, has a greater sense of desolation when driving down its Broadway, past the boarded-up Rialto. Who could have imagined, long ago, that our Bedford Falls could turn into Pottersville?
Like the schoolyard bully that asks the Jewish kid for his lunch money -- and gets it, Hamas gets tons --TONS -- of Israeli goodsevery week, even as Israel is accused of a Gaza blockade, or a Gaza boycott. Hamas is not only in a state of war with Israel, it is holding Gilad Shalit in a one-man Auschwitz.
The first day of Shavous is the 250th birthday of one of my best friends, the most spectacular Jew that ever lived, Yisroel Ben-Eliezer. Most folks know him as the Baal Shem Tov, but today I'm calling him Reb Yisroel since that's what his mom and dad called him at the dawn of his life.
(They didn't say "Hi, liitle Besht, I love you, Baal Shem Tov!" They called him Yisroel when they cuddled him and put him to bed at night. I just wanted to send some love to his parents, Eliezer and Sarah, since they gave us so much, and they died when their son was so young.)
